In regards to Bishop I would do it for 2014 1st rounder, solid goalie and reasonable cap hit would make Bryz expendable.
- flyerfan28

No guarantee that Bishop is a #1 goalie. So I don't know how it makes Bryzgalov expendable.

If you want to talk about their lack of patience with him, and whether they could have developed him while getting a less pricey vet goalie rather then signing Bryz for +++ years I could get on board with that.
- Marc D

I spent all summer two summers ago screaming about that. I'm done talking about that right now except that it reflects on the coach.

The same people who are up in arms about Bob now are probably the same people who were crapping themselves when JvR was on his hot streak to start the year. JvR's since come crashing back down to earth, as expected. Bob (and the BJ's) will be re-entering the atmosphere in t-minus 10...9...8...
- Tomahawk

I personally, wish him well and hope he continues to dominate. I also think Bryz has been very solid (many others want him replaced with Bernier or Bishop at the cost of assets) and I don't pine for Bob back to replace him.

I do wish we could somehow have kept both and had depth at that position that we don't have at backup now.

Was there a countdown prior to that rocket launch?
- wolfhounds

was that Yandle flailing at the puck before the Oilers scored?

perfect for the Flyers D!

I'm not freaking out about it but man, I hated the goalie management that playoffs and the subsequent cashiers check for Brygalof. The Bobrovsky trade was just the cherry on top of a knee jerk reaction.

I'm happy for Bobrovsky but disappointed in the team.

- mayorofangrytown

Listen, if this team is using Laviolette's management of the goalies as the final word on player development, then this team has bigger issues.

The only way Bryz doesn't get signed is if Bob played lights out in the playoffs. Something I wouldn't consider entirely reasonable to expect. The mismanagement of Bob by everyone was just another day in goalie development for the Flyers. But you can't pin that all on Lavi.

Are we really blaming the coach for a player getting traded away?
- feelingkettle

Nope. For completely and utterly mishandling Bobrovsky so badly in the POs that after going 28-13-8 in 54 games in his rookie season, the Flyers felt they had no legit goalie prospects in-house so they went out and got Bryz.

God I hope not. I also think that report that SJ will want Cooter is fine, but no way it's happening.
- Hextall271

Well if the Oilers call about a player and the other teams asked for one of Eberle or Hall, it automatically means that they're getting traded, right?

I still don't get the blame Lavi for Bob thing. It's obvious the goalies were mismanaged in the playoffs that year. All three were also horrendous. Is it any surprise that a young goalie playing his first year of NA hockey gets overwhelmed - admittedly - during the playoffs? Would the result have turned out any different if Lavi left Bob in there, only to get shelled again?

Bob is just a symptom of a larger issue this org. has with goalies. They always sucked at developing them, and then when they possibly had a nice player, were too impatient or didn't want to take a risk in him turning out bad, so they signed Bryz.

Lavi sucked in managing the goalies that playoffs, but they had an overwhelmed Bob, a Leighton, and a Boosh. The Bob situation was all on the guys upstairs.

- feelingkettle

I still say he did it because he was unhappy with his goalies and wanted to force the hand of management. The goalie situation that playoffs was hockey news all over the two countries and it was an embarrassment to the organization and Laviolette orchestrated it.

He did the same thing in the finals when he would only play Pronger, Timmonen, Coburn and Carle for six games. He ran them into the ground, it made headlines and the organization spent all summer trying to upgrade the D.

I feel it is more Snider than anything. He needs to win now because he is getting up ther in age. He told them to go with Bryz and upgraded the D anyway you can. Flyers are always..ALWAYS in win-now mode. Catch 52.

Again, my question is, if Laviolette let Bob go back in after he admittedly was in over his head in the playoffs, and Bob got shelled again, would anything have been done differently? At that point, Lavi had 3 turds to work with in goal. I would've left Bob in one more game, but again, whose fault is it that you are pinning your playoff hopes on a young goalie playing in his first year of NA hockey? That's not Lavi's doing.

Quite the conspiracy there. Do you really think a GM would keep a coach on when he is purposely trying to sabotage the team for his own gain?

It was an embarrassing situation because the Flyers let it get to that point. Bob was just a casualty of it getting that bad. Any other org with patience would've let Bob ride it out. The Flyers were afraid of Bob turning out bad, and being in the same situation. THey got sick of their own poop. Again, not on Lavi.

keenan did the same thing in the 85 final (probably in 87 to an extent, too). didn't work then, either.

JVR has 14 goals and it's his 4th NHL season.

It's Bob's 3rd NHL season.

I'm pretty sure most teams would take those 2 players in a heartbeat.

Listen, if Nabokov would have signed for a reasonable deal than Bryzgalof wouldn't be here either. Doesn't change the fact that Laviolette created the situation off of a season when Bobrovsky played pretty darn well for a Rookie. He should have stuck with him. That was my opinion then and now.

Is management responsible, yeah. They should have fired Laviolette after that mess and kept Bobrovsky and signed Vokoun for a year at a cool mil.

Dunno. The past is the past.

But that doesn't mean Lavi didn't seriously mishandle Bobs. What it all Lavi? No, of course not. Dealing Bobs is a symptom of a problem we're all aware of and discussing once again this TDL - not being patient with and dealing our youth for veterans.

Bob was traded because of locker room issues. He was expected to be a leader, but didn't take part in Lavi's Dry island program. He and Pronger had a divided locker room and one had to go.

Impossible to say that anything would've changed if Lavi left Bob in. If he gets shelled again, do they not sign Bryz?

The goalies were mismanaged by the coach, but they've been mismanaged for years by the Flyers. It just seems ridiculous for me to blame a coach for sabotaging the organization and Bob based on a playoff round. They have been pinning their hopes on guys for seasons, whether it's Biron, or Emery, or Leighton, or Boosh, or Bob. Unfortunately, they might've picked an actual good goalie to trade away. The final say is the GM. To blame Lavi is absurd in my opinion.

Agreed. This is exactly what I'm saying. Lavi mishandled the goalies for a playoff round. The FLyers have been mishandling goalies for years. A good player gets traded away, and some blame Lavi? Oh boy.
