I agree Keaner I'm not saying the Isles should dump Frans for a pick but I would seriously look to deal Fran to fix a need on the team.
- ses111

I do believe he's expendable especially with Cizikas there to more than fill his role.

I agree. Try to package Frans to improve the D or in goal.Isles have to make decisions on guys like Streit, Frans, and Boyes as to whether or not they fit going forward.

i don't even no how to respond to this one... can i just go with umm i don't think so?
- NYI78

No....
The comparison isn't in acheivement, but more that neither were good skaters, hitters, shooters etc...but still seemed to put up nice numbers..

I don't know, Cpt...I call 'em like I see 'em, and while I have written plenty of bad things about KO, and still stand by them -- particularly his need to improve his skating -- I can't deny how much better his forechecking has been lately. He's winning battles for the puck...I thought that was pretty obvious, personally, but I guess not from what you and others are writing. That line's getting great offensive zone time, and as far as I can see, KO and Bailey are the ones doing all the work along the boards to make that happen.

I watched him go into the corners and half a$$ it numerous times last night. Botch a few scoring chances and pretty much everything else I mentioned. I don't think he's effective at a whole hell of a lot.

luc had a set of silky smooth hands and a great release..luc's numbers were better than "nice"

Silky Smooth? Not really...they were 'good'. His numbers were indeed better than 'nice' hence the term 'lesser'.

OK...I don't agree, but oh well

I think that line's been our best over the last few games and it's because all three seem to be a lot more comfortable in their defined roles. It's like someone actually...coached them

you just dont' like him cause he's black and you have a mancrush on nielsen

I think Fransy has hit his ceiling, too. Watched him dogging it a few games ago.
He's playing pond hockey out there at times. Boyes is really not suited for top line regardless of his stats & no matter what garth thinks but this team leads the league in denial so.....like so many other elements of this team, get used to it.

Things getting interesting with Streit:

Darren Dreger- Mark Streit is unlikely to agree to an extension with the NYI. Isles may keep him for the playoff race, but unless there's a change, Streit will be a UFA

More from Dreger:
with Streit Negotiations stalled, expect teams to make a play for trade. Isles don't want to trade him..Could change overnight.

I think Kyle is athletic, but just a terrible skater and as you point out fundamentally flawed. He has a hell of a quick release, which he never uses, and is okay with the puck in open space but this is the NHL, not NCAA. He's never improved since his first game up...
- keaner17

KO needs to go see the skating coach JT trained with. JT's skating has become so much stronger over the past couple of seasons.

Gotta move him if he won't re-sign. They'll live without him for the rest of this season.

The Isles have done a great job with a couple of people like that. I remember Tim Jackman's first year with us the guy was awful on his skates but by year 2 he was one of the fastest straight forward skaters on the team. Same for Martin...

I have a feeling he's staying no matter what. With us being so close to the playoffs, I think Garth will be very hesitant to deal away the teams captain and pp qb. Consider him our own playoff rental at this point.

Ahh...with what folks are paying for d-men, I think they have to strongly consider moving him and trust that the folks in the locker room will brush it off, understand the circumstances, and keep plugging away. Maybe they can bring in a rental for a cheaper price than what they'd get for Streit to balance it out, or something.

I agree he needs to be moved. Isles can get value back for Streit. I thought Garth was not going to repeat the PA mistake?

this is different..the isles were out of it last year...trading your captain when you could be the 7 seed tonight is a real tough move...like i said i get this going either way..i get if he is moved and once again i totally get why he might stay..you got to look at both sides here..this isn't black and white..this is very grey

Agreed...and I've wanted to trade Streit all season but this may be the one time where we need to live with the losses of not dealing him. This isn't a situation like with PA last year where it was a slam dunk he should have been traded, this year we are firmly entrenched in the playoff picture.

Depends on the return. With where we are in the standings trading him for picks will not be good enough.

I never expect trades with the Isles. They just signed Vish so there is some money to spend and if they do not want to risk the playoffs by trading Steit they should be adding players to help.

I think the Isles are in a good situation here. I think there's a little rhetoric going on. It's almost like they're saying to the rest of the league, "we are going to keep him for the playoff push, but go ahead and try to wow us with an offer". What's good is it could be a bluff that they can stand by no matter which way it goes. I wouldn't move him unless they get wowed. To me, a second rounder doesn't cut it especially since it will likely be a late second rounder.
