can we stop with Nielsen on 3rd line. the chicago blackhawks wanted to trade from him to put him on the 2nd line. So you think He not good enough for Isles 2nd line. Nielsen is one of the most underrated centres in game. He may not have killer scoring touch but he is incredible skater, great two player and the NHL's best active shootout player by a wide margin.

Aside from few of us here. Everyone wanted Bailey off this team. Meanwhile as big Bailey fan, im most impressed by his physical play. He pushing guys around out there.

Matt Martin, shouldnt have signed with Isles, Snow and Wang short changed this guy. On any other team, coaches would be rewarding him with more and more playing time. Martin deserves some shifts with JT and Moulson on top line.

Dude, even Nielsen says he's a third-line center and can't fill a scoring role. From Staple's March 23 story:

...and that is basically what he is: A point every-other-game player, a No. 3 center who's been jammed into a No. 2 slot at times without a true second scoring center on the squad.

"I think that's the missing piece in our lineup," Nielsen said with his usual candor. "Hopefully [Ryan] Strome can be that guy next season."

Curious to what everyone thinks we should with Streit here? I have to say it is a tough position.

My view is trade him if you get the right return. While i understand we are in midst of playoffs, we arent winning the cup.

If we going to make playoffs, we can do it without Streit.
My guess is Snow offered same deal as Viz. If he thinks he worth more than thats his opinion.

You'll be hard pressed to find a GM that is going to think that way. They constantly look up the standings not down. I agree I'd rather get something for him than keep him to eek into the playoffs but I don't think that will happen. Streit is seen as a big part of this organization and we know that Snow and Wang would love nothing more than to get into the playoffs and say 'we told you so' even if at the expense of a potential 1st or 2nd round pick.
I hope I'm wrong, but I think ultimately the Isles will determine that Streit's value to the team is too high right now to deal away for yet another pick when we're more than just alive in this race.

If we didn't have Streit, I think folks wouldn't gripe much if we dealt a 2nd rounder for a decent rental dman...by keeping Streit we're doing essentially the same thing.

currently, in the Isles rotation, Streit playing with Martinek is the third pair, so 5th and 6th defenseman. He gets extra minutes on the PP so his icetime is going to be higher than a typical 5th/6th.

Are we really going to miss him that much? LV has looked better defensively, better at the breakout, better on the PP and plays more PK minutes. He's smaller than Streit yet seems to be able to make a better pass, be in better position defensively and has a knack for getting his stick in the shooting/passing lanes. I think LV was a much better dman to resign than Streit and I can see Donovan being able to play in a bottom pair role for the last part of the season. I don't see the value in holding onto Streit, nor do I see the value in resigning him when his play has declined so far and with all the kids we have coming. Keeping him or resigning him to more than a 1 or 2 year deal would be a mistake IMO. I'd rather see him moved before he gets worse.

I hear you when Strome ready to be a NHL 2nd centre, then Nielson can become the #3. But im saying, dont sell the guy short. He had beautiful pass to Bailey last night and finished the night with 2 Assists.

When either Strome, or Brock Nelson becomes our #2 Center, you will see how balanced this offense becomes. JT, Strome/Nelson, Nielson, and Cizikas down the middle could be top notch. Hopefully Nino and Lee can be our 2 big wingers, and this offense all of a sudden looks really good.

I'd say 'not at all', which is why I would trade him. I'm not debating that with anyone here. What I am saying is, I don't think we will trade him. Streit is very well regarded by management, to the point that they named him team Captain. I don't think they're overly concerned with grabing a late 1st round or 2nd round pick as opposed to keeping things as they are and seeing what type of success this team can get in a year they were predicted to have none.
That's my point. I don't think the demand for Streit is nearly as high as many anticipate it will be and considering we've already seen a few puck moving dmen traded, there is less contention for Streit's services at this point.

Yes please and no three year deal for Streit. Especially with guys like Reinhart, Pedan and hopefully Mayfield on the way.
- ses111

A three year deal for Streit isn't the end of the world. There are seven "D" spots open on any given roster. Streit takes up one. There is no way anyone can accurately speculate when any of the prospects you listed will be legitimately NHL-ready, meaning they take a regular shift and are effective in doing so.

Personally, I'd rather re-sign Streit and look to dump a guy like A-mac when the kids are ready to come up.

may not be popular opinion, but I say trade Streit, throw Boyes in with him and attempt to get someone back like Leddy. If needed throw colin mcdonald, grabner or bailey on the first line, plug anders lee in at wing to fill a third line role and bump grabner up to second line if Bailey is the one to move up. Bring up Nino or Strome and keep going. Even if you deal streit for a 1st round pick it's preferable to losing him for nothing and frankly right now he's not adding a lot. His defensive play has been awful, he took a bad angle on elias last night and was the reason the devils scored.

While the team is currently battling for a playoff spot, they could just as easily fall out of the race and be left with nothing if he walks. I'd rather see him go than resign, especially with the amount of young defenseman the Isles have coming. They need to clear space for the kids

- Isles_since_6

It all depends on the deal. I'm not completely against trading Streit, I'm against moving him for a second round pick, especially to a team bulking up for the playoffs who's second rounder will be a late one. A late second round pick and a marginal prospect are not worth trading the team's captain and one of their two best offensive defensemen away in the middle of a legit playoff race. It sends a terrible message.

So, if all you could get for Streit was a second or third rounder, you'd rather throw away a shot at the playoffs and trade him for that kind of return than to keep him, try and possibly make the playoffs for a team that hasn't made the playoffs in five seasons, and possibly re-sign him before free agency hits in July? I disagree with that. I don't want just something for Streit. I'd want something significant if I'm moving him right now. It all depends on the return. A second or third round pick doesn't do it for me.
