I'm wouldn't overpay for a PP offensive defenseman.
- MJL

Yandle isn't a legit #1, but he's a puck-moving, smooth skating blue-liner with a supreme offensive skill-set. I'd love to have him, but as I said, I'm not moving Schenn or Couturier to get him here.

Flyers out of Clowe sweepstakes praise jebus
- Winning

With Clowe wanting a big contract I don't think the Flyers had enough tagging space to get a deal done.
Thankfully!

I'm aware of what he is. I wouldn't overpay for him. Read, a high pick and a top prospect is too much.

Do we have one of those? I'm not joking.

Depends on the "high pick and prospect."

What does that mean? A second and Gusty? Then Yeah I would do it for that hesitantly and look every where else first, we are up a river without a paddle for what he could bring to the team.

If it is more, no thanks.

You will overpay for any top pairing defenseman, regardless of whether it is the TDL, draft weekend, start of FA, etc. If we don't want to overpay, then we need to draft and groom the defenseman, which means some of our older/FA-bound players will not be there to contribute. This is the life of a salary cap, but it's certainly worth mentioning.

If you feel your team is almost there in terms of being a legit contender, and the clock is running on some of the older players/FA-bound players; then you have to overpay to get that final piece (especially when it is a puck-moving D-man). I'm not saying we're a puck-moving defenseman away from being legit, but if that's the case; you have to realize that you will likely overpay for that elusive puck-moving D-man.

I like Read, but if it's a Read for Yandle trade, with minimal draft pick value included on our end. I would think that Homer would heavily consider it (as would I).

This team is franked when it comes to cap space next year...If tagging space is an issue then I dont see how they are in on any trades unless a good chunk of salary goes the other way. So tired of this team being up against the cap with little results just terrible operations.

Absolutely you're going to overpay for a top pairing defenseman. That's why if I'm going to overpay. I want to get a player who is more of an all situations defensman. Yandle is a nice player. But he's a player you're going to have to use right. You have to keep him away from top lines as much as possible. Use him in far more offensive starts then defensive zone starts. Yandle would add a dynamic offensive presence to the Flyers back end. And he would no doubt help them. But for me personally, I'd like to overpay for a different kind of defenseman. And I concede that kind of player, is even harder to get.

I don't want to speak for MJL but I don't think he was talking about a trade.

I think he was just saying that we may have a "number one prospect" in Laughton, answering your first question....

There are things the Flyers can do. I fully expect the Flyers to ice a quality roster next Season.

If we are replacing a D man like ff28 says then his cap hit is coming off the books too. ff28's style of math is a bit fuzzy. Replacing Meszaros for example gives you 4 mil to play with.
