I am a big fan of what Holmgren has done. This is going to be a very good team for a long time. They only have two essential needs at this point. They need a #1 Dman and a reliable backup goalie who can take every 4th or 5th game and get you a few wins over the season.
- spatso

There is stuff he has done that we can nitpick and complain about, length of deala and $ amounts, etc.
But if he can accomplish and fill those 2 big needs in the next year I will be very happy.

In 2 years they need 2 top end defenseman, or at least a #1 and a #3.
not an easy thing to do.

Homer's made some very good moves, and taken some big swings and whiffed, but this season, with this team, going after Clowe just doesn't make sense. If it's part of a bigger deal, I suppose we'll all know soon enough.

i feel this time tomorrow we are all going to be very happy or very upset and probably very confused

Almost certainly 1 of Jones, Nurse, Ristolainen, Zadorov or Pulock will be available when the Flyers pick this off-season. Assuming, of course, we don't scramble into the playoffs and win the cup.

Still, we did win 2 games this weekend... We're practically a lock for the Finals.

Bryzwallov's got it covered. And if they do score, I hope they can dodge water bottles while skating in circles.

I refuse to care about this trade. Harry Z is an AHL talent.
- bradleyc4

It's not that they traded Zolnierczyk. It's that they're wasting a roster spot and contract slot on a guy that can not play hockey. If Voracek didn't get into that fight, Jay Rosehill is in Anaheim still.

The best part is, Rosehill won't even stop the kind of play that happened to Giroux. Even if he's on the ice at the time, which he won't be.

Rosehill deal makes zero sense to me. Harry Z at least brought energy to the lineup when he dressed. I hope the Flyers are making this trade to clear a salary slot in the offseason.
- flyguy12

I think this deal was more of the future than now...

Sestito's gone - Shelley's gone next season. And, the Flyers management won't be caught without at least one goon. And, Rosehill should be able to handle some 4th line minutes without ill-effect.

As for HarryZ. I thought he was good, despite his total lack of offense. He could create scoring opts, but never put it in. If you look at next year. Cousins or Laughton will make the team. Both are better than Harry, and will bury some of the missed opts. Rinaldo is better than Harry and is shaping up to be a pretty good player. And, there's a few guys at the farm that could do equally as well as Harry, like Wellwood or Holmstrom - not to mention McGinn

From Homer's perspective - he signed Harry Z - undrafted. And, traded him for a drafted player. So, he got a draft pick for free. All-be-it a low draft pick.

I still can't believe Briere sustained a serious concussion at practice right before the trade deadline.

Why pick just one? This fanbase is broken enough that we'll probably see all of the above.

Garrett Klotz was a 3rd round pick. Matt Read was a FA signing. Just because a player was drafted/undrafted has no effect on...what are you trying to say again?

It would have been a lot better for the Flyers if he traded Zolnierczyk for a 6th rounder. Rosehill is worthless.

Harry Z is nothing to write home about, but adding a goon is a wasted roster spot.

On Rosehill, Panaccio noted something on Twitter that makes a lot of sense. I thought it was a dumb trade but he pointed out the Flyers do not want Voracek playing enforcer anymore. Funny when you think about it. All the rough stuff seems to be falling to Simmonds and Voracek lately. Not the way you would like to see it.

If Giroux didn't get laid out...

If whoever it was would have made a better pass so G didn't have to put himself in a vulnerable position.

Still, it makes little sense. Jake didn't think about who was on the roster that could fight, he reacted after seeing his captain get knocked to the ice. And I personally appreciate his reaction, as did most of the team, and having Rosehill or anybody else in the lineup wouldn't have changed anything at that particular moment.

Hope a similarly flawed line of reasoning isn't behind the Flyers' pursuit of Clowe.

Why is San Jose a seller...I understand Clowe and Murray are pending UFAs, but Boyle and Burns names are out there....they are in a playoff spot so I just wonder why unless there GM is more realistic on what his team is then ours apparently

My issue is the Flyers facination with no talent hacks like Rosehill. When do they move away from this goon mentality. I would rather have the speed of Harry Z over whatever it is Rosehill brings to the table.

The Flyers have Rinaldo, L. Schenn, Simmonds, and Hartnell all are fully capable of dropping the gloves when need be. Bringing in some staged tough guy is stupid. It's ass backwards, reactionary thinking.

That is classic tpanotch bullpoop. Simmonds has had 1 fight since late February. Jake has had 1 fight ever. If they want a goon, then so be it. But it's not because Jake and Simmonds are counted on to be enforcers.

Rosters expand tomorrow and he's gone at the end of the year. There's virtually no waste, imo.

Exactly. Say Rosehill is on the team on Sunday night. He's not going to be out on a line with Giroux. So Voracek is still going to do what he did. He's not sitting there going...Hmmm, well we got Rosehill...

Rinaldo is more of a deterrent. All you do is make it clear that if Giroux gets unfairly handled, that the other team's star player will be getting a visit from Rinaldo. That's more effective than Rosehill banging his knuckles off the other team's goon's head.
