Good move to not waste pieces for Clowe. The Flyers have more crucial needs, and need to spend cap space more wisely.
Eklund saying Philadelphia has interest in Luongo, as talks are heating up. Looking to get hits - flyer_nutter
That would mean the end of Bryzgalov?
One bad contract to another.
I would look to sign Emery or trade for Bishop. Thats if they are looking to move on from Bryz of course. |

Yes. Yes it wouldve - Just5
For a good reason. The flyers are not in position to be giving up picks for clowe |

Looks like they got a 2nd and 3rd guaranteed and possibly another 2nd or a 5th conditionally. two 2s and a 3 is pretty good for a goalless forward. - mayorofangrytown
SJ made good on this trade. He wasn't going to be re-signed and he has no goals this year. |

If he plays like crap for the Rags it's not a given they sign him. A second and a third is all that SJ is guaranteed. Pretty similar to what Holmgren gave up for Kubina. (second and fourth) |

I'd like to see the flyers get involved in a hockey trade there involving coburn or grossman. Damn these injuries!! - Just5
They could add him and still keep the d intact |

If they could somehow aquire McBain and Streit without moving much from the roster, I think that be great moves. |

Even if he plays like crap and they don't resign him they get a 5th in addition.
PLUS if the Rangers manage to win two rounds in the playoffs with Clowe benched and unsigned at the end of the year it still becomes two 2s and a 3.
That's significantly more than the Kubina trade. |

Or Grossmannnnnn.
That man is held together by Elmer's Glue (and the poopty stick kind not even the squirt kind that's halfway decent), duct tape, and knee braces. |

I didn't want the Flyers to go after Clowe, but the Rags gave up very little to get him. - PLindbergh31
you mean very little for the guy being outscored by the offensively inept sean couturier and marty brodeur? |

He's been awful this year no doubt about. We will see what a change of scenery does for him. He has been a 20 goal guy consistently.
My point was Holmgren overpaid for a total bum in Kubina, Rangers in some opinion are overpaying for a good player that is having a down year.
We will see what Holmgren does tomorrow. He did zero to improve the team during the summer, and the proof is in the pudding.
All that being said, I'm glad the Flyers went nowhere near Clowe, he's not a fit here. |

But did he, though?
He threw tons of money (some people say actually the largest dollar amounts) at both Parise and Suter, and went ballz to the wall for Weber. We've read it on here before- hell....I've said it before- Homer can't make players decide to play for Philly. He did all he could to get Suter and Parise, and they said no. That isn't on him. Same, but different, with Weber. Did he tell Poille to match....??
Moreover, what else could he have done? Trade Voracek? Brayden Schenn? Cooter? I read it on here, just a few pages ago: sometimes the best trade you make is the one you don't make at all. Besides, the JVR/Schenn swap is looking pretty nice....
EDIT: The bottom line is that the team didn't get better. People that say that are right. But it isn't because Homer sat on his ass and twiddled his thumbs. Is it partially Homer's fault with the performance of this team? Certainly it's a possibility. But the blame has to be placed on the underachieving players and the coach to some extent as well. He swung and missed, but he swung....what else can we ask from him? |

It still remains that Holmgren's summer was a bust, but not a sin of omission. If he has a similar offseason this year, then I'll be questioning his job security.
EDIT: I'll agree that the Schenn trade was a decent swap, though. |

rentals often don't work out for gms... if clowe re-signs long term, then it might be a solid move. but i dunno, seems like a lot for what could wind up being a rental 3rd line winger
and i hear ya on kubina, but i'm not gonna lie, i liked it at the time. seemed like a good fit, he just broke down (weird because it seems like we never have to hear about flyers with injury problems) |
