But did he, though?

He threw tons of money (some people say actually the largest dollar amounts) at both Parise and Suter, and went ballz to the wall for Weber. We've read it on here before- hell....I've said it before- Homer can't make players decide to play for Philly. He did all he could to get Suter and Parise, and they said no. That isn't on him. Same, but different, with Weber. Did he tell Poille to match....??

Moreover, what else could he have done? Trade Voracek? Brayden Schenn? Cooter? I read it on here, just a few pages ago: sometimes the best trade you make is the one you don't make at all. Besides, the JVR/Schenn swap is looking pretty nice....

EDIT: The bottom line is that the team didn't get better. People that say that are right. But it isn't because Homer sat on his ass and twiddled his thumbs. Is it partially Homer's fault with the performance of this team? Certainly it's a possibility. But the blame has to be placed on the underachieving players and the coach to some extent as well. He swung and missed, but he swung....what else can we ask from him?

It still remains that Holmgren's summer was a bust, but not a sin of omission. If he has a similar offseason this year, then I'll be questioning his job security.

EDIT: I'll agree that the Schenn trade was a decent swap, though.

- BulliesPhan87

In his defense, I think we should give him a free pass this summer. The best trade you make........

Besides- the FA pool this year, especially D wise, is like picking apples from a diseased tree

I couldn't agree more. Very good hockey trade. I just have a horrible feeling we wake up overpaying for Yandle.

So I see tweets about how Kiprusoff is willing to waive his NTC to go to Toronto as long as he receives a contract extension and more money next season (for which he is already under contract for). How exactly can he get more money for next season under the CBA? This may be a stupid question, but would a signing bonus that counts against his extension's cap hit be given immediately or when then the extension kicks in?
- five4fighting10

He can't receive more money for next Season. You cannot renegotiate a contract. And he can't be signed to an extension until July 1. And he would not receive any singing bonus money until July 1 of the first year of the new deal.

He struck out swinging for the fences. I'm upset he didn't have anything prepared outside of those big money contracts, but I appreciate what he attempted. That said, if he does something similar this summer, or generally fails to improve the club, I won't be so forgiving (I know, he's shaking in his boots).

Now is definitely not the time to trade for Yandle, if ever there is one.

Signing bonus is paid when he signs the contract.
- mayorofangrytown

No, it's paid on July 1 of the first year of the deal. If a player who is a UFA signs an extension during the Season. He does not get the signing bonus money right away. All a signing bonus is, is part of his salary paid up front.

Swing and a miss attempting a homerun. I'm upset he didn't have anything prepared outside of those big money contracts, but I appreciate what he attempted. You are right though. I think this is summer will be pretty interesting, just because I feel like creativity will be on the agenda.

I just hope he doesn't get too creative....

why wouldn't homer have taken a shot with drewiske for a 5th?

For the Seth Jones fans he had 2 goals in the round 1 series clinching game for Portland.

I wonder if he is re signed by them.. either way it's a lot for a zero goal scorer.. I am glad we are going to hold onto our picks.. we're either going to miss the playoffs or barely make them and get massacred first round.
- Hextall271

The zero goals for Clowe is an anomaly. In my opinion it's a very good deal for the Rangers. They got a tough gritty veteran forward. Who despite his struggles this year, can score. And they got him cheap.

Streit if he goes UFA will want 3-4 years in his next deal. Could be a fit here.
McBain is very interesting but likely will cost more then a second rounder.
Why is a team thin on D like Carolina trading a young guy like him anyway?

I'd like to see the flyers get involved in a hockey trade there involving coburn or grossman. Damn these injuries!!

I would offer a 2nd and maybe a conditional for McBain and see what Streit would cost.

which doesnt make much sense. if LA asked philly for a 4th, why would you settle for the habs 5th and not philly's 5th?

i keep telling myself that danny briere isn't really hurt, that it was just a rouse to keep him off the ice while they worked out a trade, and that he's being flipped to carolina for mcbain (they just acquired MAB!!! )

in all seriousness though, i would have interest in streit if the price is right + the flyers decide to mix things up a bit on the back end this offseason
