Lets say hypothetically the sabres wind up with #4 pick in this years draft. It is worth exponentially less than the top 3 positions (obviously going to Jones, Drouin, Mackinnon in any order). After that the talent is obviously there...but not nearly as close to the "star" potential for these three guys.
What do you guys think the price would be to trade up say even one spot? The gms ahead of darcy will obviously realize they will be missing out on one of these 3 studs...so whats the cost to give that up?
or even say we wind up somewhere around 5, 6 or 7 (its a lottery format from now one). Whats the price to move up?
2013 1st, 2013 2nd (our own) 2013 2nd (blues) ?? or would it be steeper than this? I have no idea thats why I ask |

Do you see Gillis trying to resign Roy after the year is over? It sounds like he's asking for $6 mil per which if I'm remembering correctly, would be a bit high since you guys are going to be in cap hell. Though I could be wrong. I'm too lazy to look up your cap situation. - HonkFortheGoose
I think Roy is a better player than most people here do and I think $6 million is too much. $5 million maybe. |

Oh no, Garth's back on the best friend wagon with Blake Wheeler.
Maybe Wheeler can play on a line with Parise and Zajac...oh wait... |

Bad break for the Sabres tonight, the Penguins made an organizational decision to ditch their blue jerseys. They were supposed to wear them this evening. They need to burn those cursed threads. - Gunner Staal

Actually the most recent rankings have MacKinnon at 4... but I doubt anyone takes the risk with Nichuskin at #2. |

No way he's getting re-signed for anything close to 6 million. |

I've never been a fan of them. When I think Pittsburgh, I think black and gold. I'm sure the Steelers have something to do with that too, but it always looks weird to me to see the Pens in blue. |

Oh, I agree. I was just stating what the rumor was that he was going to be looking for when his contract expires. It's why Dallas traded him. |

One of the worst in the league - baby blue should never be on a hockey jersey. |

Yeah I just checked out a mock and saw Barkov ranked way high too...he has 48 pts in 50 SM Liiga games...isnt that a ton for a kid that young? hes big too...could be a nice addition.
Idk my point is what is the price to move up in the top 3 picks of the nhl draft its much different than the nfl
does anyone know what burke gave up to grab both sedins? |

He forgot the 'B,' it's Mister Blister, and he's referring to the blister that's about to put Leino back on IR. |

Remove last season which followed an injury, and had him playing through injury and his value is easily 5.25M to 5.5M. Hes been severely underpaid at 4M.
So while 6M may seem like a crazy asking price, if he was already making what his value is, it wouldnt seem all that crazy.
Teams should be willing to pay at least $5-5.25M for him, maaaaybe 5.5M. |

The price varies from year to year. It depends on the talent available. Sometimes there's a huge drop off just from 1 to 2. Sometimes it's after 5. It just depends on who's available each year. |

Agreed, personally I wouldn't go over 5 million per though. Don't think the Canucks can afford that though unless maybe Ballard/Booth/Luongo are all gone this summer and even then it's going to be tough. |

I remember how many people were pissed about the $4M deal. In the end, it was a pretty great price for a guy that's been as productive as he has been. I think you're right on with how much he should get. But you know players, they'll find someone crazy enough to give them what they want eventually. I get the feeling it ends up being Edmonton. |
