BTW, I am not saying to make any dumb trades or anything. I just prefer they play young players at this point and put them in different situations to see what they really have heading into the offseason.

I would think if/when they get to the point where they feel they are on the outside, they will play their kids more. for now they probably feel they owe it to the team to try to get that last playoff spot. would i rather see a top 3 pick and play the kids now over an 8th place finish and a first round elimination? yes but I get their thinking

Trades have to be called, faxed or e-mailed to the NHL office by 3 pm. The delay is in finishing the actual trade call, where the league calls the teams involved and verifies the particulars(i.e. that the cap hits work out, if the draft picks are owned by the teams trading them, waiving of any NTC/NMCs, etc). Trade calls generally take ten-thirty minutes
