Probably, but it looks as though if the Flyers want to upgrade the D they are going to most likely have to part with Couturier, the free agent market for defenseman isn't looking to great for this summer. With Laughton and Cousins possibly making the team next season I think they can part with Couts if they can get a good young defenseman back - FreshFlyer
Not to beat the same old drum, but to fix the top end D problem, I'd prefer they traded Hartnell for a known D man, draft a promising young D man this year and hope in 3 -4 years the pick works out, and keep Couts. |

It's an overpayment because Ottawa fills a big need and trades a guy who was going to be their third goalie. Yzerman's goalie choices thus far have made Clarke look like Sam Pollock - Jsaquella
but talent is talent. whether he was going to be their 3rd goalie or not seems irrelevant to me.
I haven't watched Bishop play, so I wouldn't really know
EDIT: This is one of those deals that no one will be able to evaluate accurately for a couple of years |

Heck yes I would rather see hartnell go, but do you think you will get what you need for Hartnell? |

I agree that un-drafter doesn't mean much (although it means something). That said yes OTT got a good player for a "spare" right now. Doesn't mean it was a bad trade for TBL. We need to evaluate this years down the road. |

Bishop's a 26 year old goalie, who has played 36 NHL games and really hasn't done much until this year. Even now, he's still running on potential.
Conacher is similar to Read, undrafted, but coveted. He's got 24 points and has speed and grit. He's a great fit.
Meanwhile, the Bolts plug in yet another untested goalie |

Wow this sucks looking at other teams where they have vets, young guns on the team and players in the pipeline with a low cap. Makes the Flyers organization look like a joke.
Really does make sense though, teams with young guys that produce in their early and mid-20's are the teams that succeed. Not the ones that wait until their young guns get to 27-28. |

Especially when you consider what was given up for Lindback, which I think was 2 - 2nd round picks and a 3rd round pick.

You aren't going to get everything you need for just Hartnell.
But he could get a very good top four puck moving type of defenseman I believe.
Might have to thrown in a pick or prospect for the right guy.

That could be done as well but I'm not sure Hartnell could net that #1 guy the Flyers need on the back end. I'm guessing Couturier could do that which is why I am not against trading him in the right deal. Hartnell also brings a lot of intangibles Couts doesn't bring which is why I would be hesitant in trading Hartnell |

I admire that the Flyers really care about putting out a good, successful product. I really do.
But the fact is, the Flyers have done that at the expense of their farm system and player development programs. |
