Yeh they threw away a very high third rd pick in a deep draft, if they don't keep Mason. - Marc D
Well, look on the bright side. It wasn't a 2nd. |

Mason is a guy they have liked for awhile, who they feel they can fix. It's time to just wait and see now. - Jsaquella
I think the change of scenery may do him some good, I think that Philly trading for him at least gives him some confidence because it shows that a team who tries to compete for a cup year in and year out still has some faith in his abilities. |

A Bryz buyout would explain the trade, but I still think it's dumb. We're back full circle to having poop/questionable (glass half empty/half full interpretations) goaltending if this is the plan. This is really frustrating. - BulliesPhan87
Big time. I hope this is just maybe a pre-cursor to him signing for under $2 mil next year on a short deal to re-establish himself. I mean, we cannot buy out Bryz for Mason as our starter, and it makes no sense trying to ride Bryz in what would project to be like 75 starts a season |

i like the trade, got rid of a stiff, if he gets back to half his talent its worth the 3rd imo, he is still young, he was on a poopty team |

RIGHT? - Giroux_Is_God
Nope. I'm not much of a part time Flyer fan, I watch games not the box scores. Doing crappy for a ton of games then having a couple 3-4 point night does't excuse a player from poor production. |

I am happy with Mason over leighton as a the backup. just not thrilled at the 2.9 cap hit and the fact they move Bob in the first place only to turn around and trade for mason. that just makes me shake my head - nastyflyergirl
That part of it doesn't make sense to me... I think Bob should have been kept all along. Mason for a 3rd isn't the end of the world.. do they have to qualify him at 2.9 mil? |

I really hate the goalie swaps with Columbus. Holmgren should be ashamed. I know I'm ruling with the power of hindsight here, but I don't understand this Mason trade at all. - BulliesPhan87
They are playing rape rape games. We raped Columbus in the Carter deal and Columbus raped us in the bob and mason deals |

The Bob factor is very hard to ignore when thinking about this deal. I try, but I can't :/
Edit: Not that I think the move is garbage or anything. Maybe Mason finds some of his old game here working with Reese. I don't know |

Watching the Luongo conference, very sad. I don't feel pity for professional athletes, as they are millionaires. But his answers really show that he just wants to play, and not just collect a paycheck.
When asked why he hasn't been traded yet, he outright says "My contract sucks".
When asked if he would give back some money to get more playing time, he says "I would scrap my contract".
Millionaire or not, he just wants to start and win. |

An injury prone 2nd line center, an injured grinder and a prospect defenseman...yeah, overwhelming. |

Cuz Philly is the place to go to build struggling young goalie's confidence!
And with Lavvy as coach!!
The reason we even have Bryz instead of Bob was because of how Lavvy handled Bob in the playoffs. |

the problem with bob was, he needed to start, with bryz that was never going to happen |

Yeah... they are looking dumb w/the Bob move.
They can always qualify Mason and hope somebody else signs him to an offer sheet. But like I say to my boss all the time, hope isn't a strategy. |

I know people look at the Bob trade now as a huge mistake, and it probably was, but did anyone here think he would be this good this season? I thought down the line, not this year.
I think Mason can be a valuable addition on a fresh team. The cap hit sucks, but for a 3rd, it's not the end of the world. Especially if he can gain some of his stride back from his earlier play. |

you know what, I'm not sure anymore if Bryz buyout is the plan
I think they just decided they would waste a third rounder in case they rally and make the play offs.
They did not sell their UFAs so maybe the management really feels they have a shot at the playoffs
