what if they re sign Mason for 2 yrs, say 2.8M total
better? - Marc D
And keep Bryz, yes. Although I don't have a lot of confidence that Mason can win many of his limited starts. |

Alright, big question:
How did Homer do today?
A
B
C
D
or F - coffee junkie
B.
I don't like the Rosehill move, but it is minor. They added a decent 4th liner who is good on faceoffs in Hall, didn't trade away any of the young core. Also landed a young goalie that has had some success for a future pick.
I do think that we will see Bryzgalov bought out in June. I can't see how, with a lower cap and other needs, they can fill the other holes on the team. They can't spend $9mm on goalies with a $64mm cap next year |

True.
Needless to say I think there is going to be a big overhaul of the team come draft day. |

Mason is a big goalie who plays sound positionally. He is a mature, confident and extremely poised goaltender, capable of making big saves at the key times in games. Mason has a strong work ethic, and thinks the game well. He's got good lateral mobility, and plays the puck extremely well.
That's something we haven't had for a while.
Though getting rid of Bobrovsky to then turn around and get his backup a year later makes no sense whatsoever, I'm quite interested to see what Mason can do. Still, if the Flyers are on the bubble and have a chance to get into the post-season, how much playing time is Mason going to get?
And we all know Lavi isn't great handling goalies, and do we really want more goalie drama? |

I am hoping they can get a top 4 puck moving defenseman, maybe upgrade the 6/7th D position, and anything else would be gravy. |

I would play Mason as much as possible if Bryz is going to be bought out. |

Think of it this way, if we sneak into the playoffs and are trailing after the first period by a goal your chances of seeing Leighton now are severely diminished.

Will we see #12 and #18 for the Flyers as a penalty killing pair tonight?
Good memories, some great short handed goals by that tandem. |

That is an interesting question/perspective. I think we will also have a glimpse into what they are thinking with regard to resigning/buy outs based on who plays for the rest of the season.
Personally I'm looking forward to seeing Mason play in Philly. From an purely entertainment stand point it has given me something else to get excited about for the rest of the season.
I BTW give Homer a B for all the same reasons everyone else has written. |

Think Bob heard about Leighton coming to the team and suffered cold sweats and nightmares of sitting in a press box? |

If the Columbus GM is even halfway decent - and it seems he is - and if Bob turns out to be at least an above average goalie - and it seems he is - the Blue Jackets could become the Beasts of the East in a few short years with their 3 first round picks this coming draft and a potentially still productive Gaoborik. |

The addition of Mason seems to have been an indication that Bryz will likely be gone.

I'm very surprised to see that Gaborik was traded to the Blue Jackets. |

..and they might even make the playoffs this year to boot.
Any guess what number mason takes? Apparently #1 is taken lol
Also, when was the last time we had a right handed catching tender? Was it Maxime Ouellette?
Edit.. oops, got them mixed up.. I was thinking of JM Pelletier.. |

I think one of B Schenn or Couturier will be moved. Carrying the two while there is such a big hole on the blueline is completely superfluous. I also see one of Coburn, Grossmann or Meszaros getting moved. None of them are top line players and they are all paid far too much to be 3rd pairing guys. If Meszaros could stay healthy I'd say move Coburn, but Meszaros cant so he is the odd man out in my eyes.
Depending on who we draft 1st I also see some domino moves following it.
I do think Jones is out of the picture. Unless we somehow win the lotto there are now 3, possibly 4 teams with multiple 1st's. If they want the 1st overall they are much better equipped then we are to pull off that deal. |

Yup. I trust Lavi and the Flyers organization with goalies about as much as I trust alcoholics with a case of beer or pedos with a clown suit and ice cream truck. |

It appears Holmgren has already had discussions with Agent for Mason.
Bottom line: Paycut as per holmgren but also may mean new contract.

If they get a new deal worked out and it's a paycut, I could see them keeping both Bryzgalov and Mason. |

I dont see Mason signing for less than $2.5M per year.
Still a very young goalie. |
