I'm sorry has anyone seen Bryz play in Phoenix?? Are people under the assumption he was elite then? Other than the 42 win year and playing on a team people consider a waste...numbers look very similar. Ok save % is in the 92's a few years. His play is the same as well, minus the better defensive team in front of him. Only Ed Snider and the cool-aid drinkers thought he was elite.
Michael Leighton...he was one of THREE goaltenders who helped the Flyers get to the cup, but was the reason they lost in game 6. He sucked in 2010 and still sucks.
So they trade a 2015 3rd rounder for a 24 year old goalie who could become James Reimer or he could become a decent NHL goalie...who cares! Flyers never have anyone pan out in the 3rd or later, they barely get anything out of the first besides Gagne, Richards, Carter and Giroux. Everyone else have been poop in the last 20 years.
Sign a vetern goalie for 3.5M or less, maybe get lucky and Mason finds a game. Use the money to fix the team defense issue. Hopefully the Flyers can get a top 3 to help the team, more likely the team will end up Maple Leafin' it this year...get red hot, show hope and miss the playoffs by a couple points. |

So the flyers have been chasing a bad goalie for several years isn't this their history for the past 20 years? |

Flyers beat Maple Leafs...there best defenseman left after all the injuries...*throws up* Luke Schenn.
Even JayBo would look good on the pathetic defense the Flyers have, well not if they had to pay him. Plus they have 4 wins in a row...how does that happen?
Ohhh...
Coburn...blows.
Mez...blows harder.
Grossmann....good.
Timmonen...old and done 2 years ago. |

What Ek does not tell you is that, for years, Mason has been doing his impression of being a Philly goaltender. |

They luckily drafted King Henrik like 200th overall. Maybe the Flyers should have grabbed him. |

Mason hasn't been good in the past few years but maybe a change of scenery will prove good for him. He has proven that he has the potential to be one of the top goalies in the league but, having said that, he has also proven that he could also be a bust. Only time will tell which one. - Bryant44
Mason has been awful the past few years. His positional play is the worst I have seen since Trevor Kidd. He inspired no confidence whatsover in CBJ. Going into shootouts there was an air of defeat and it was visible on the faces of the Jackets.
Let's remember that it was under Hitchcock that Mason thrived...but so did Elliott, which pretty much sums it up. |

Interesting
"As you know, the Columbus Blue Jackets have been pretty awful this year and part of that misery has been the brutal play of starting goalie Steve Mason.
Would you believe that Mason’s poor play may have resulted because he was wearing pads that were too small? It’s true according to Shawn Mitchell of The Columbus Dispatch, and Mason’s reasons for not wearing fitting pads are unreal.
“I never knew I could,” Mason said. “If I knew, I would have done it three years ago. I guess I was a little out of the loop on that kind of stuff. But we’ll make it work now.”
Mason says the old pads would leave him with bruises after getting hit with pucks in the ribs so often. Picture that if you will, playing goal with padding too small leaving more gaps in coverage to get hit by pucks being shot at 90-100 miles-per-hour at you. You might be pretty awful in goal too if your job was abusing you that way.
Not surprisingly, Mason’s numbers have improved since switching to the new equipment. Since making the switch he’s gone 7-3-1 and his numbers are more befitting that of a starting NHL goalie. If Mason can close out the season as strong as he’s playing now, it makes you wonder what might’ve been had he been more on top of things from the get go."

some teams (leafs) trade away starting goalies (rask) for stopgaps (raycroft) because they make mistakes (justin pogge)
others get lucky with undrafted goalies like lundquist. still others let their undrafted goalies go and then they become starters (niemi, bobrovsky) |
