He wanted him at the draft, and was unwilling to give up the 7th to move to 5th. He wanted to acquire the 5th(and Schenn), but not at the cost of the 7th. - Feeling Glucky?
Toronto is heading in the right direction. Goaltending seems to be the biggest issue although I dont think Reimer is bad.
I haven't said anything but I'm listening to 590 in T.O. today and they called him the shakiest goalie they've played lately. They've been ripping his play last night since I turned it on 2 hours ago. - mayorofangrytown
I'm shocked they have nothing nice to say about the goalie that just beat them. Absolutely shocked I tell you!
I would agree with that. But if money is an issue for St. Louis. Coburn may not be the right piece for them anyway. I would part with Couts for Shattenkirk - Just5

3 Biggest needs, IMO:
#1 center(maybe Kadri)
Top-6 tough-as-nails powerforward(got a few prospects for this, doubtful they fill the role)
Big minute shutdown d-man to play with Phaneuf.
the 3rd one gets me pissed about the Aulie and Schenn trades.
"All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh-water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?"
K, the 20% alien abduction thing is bogus in this poll becasue Briere has ALREADY been abducted by aliens. I haven't seen him on the ice all season. - FlyersGrace
yea definitely didn't see this view on the Philly feed last night
Edit: Sorry if I didn't properly embed the video, I changed the frame width/height so I hope this works. First time trying. - five4fighting10
Yeah, this view doesn't look like he actually grabs it - more like he sort of hooks it with his glove/wrist while still holding on to his own stick. The Sportsnet freeze frame was too blurry to see that aspect clearly. Looks to me like he probably didn't set out intending to grab or interfere with the top of the goalie's stick, but once he found himself tangled up with it he certainly didn't make much of an effort to release it. Intentional or not, seems pretty clear that he interfered with the goalie. We've certainly seen a lot less get called against us.

Not sure if this is true but I swear I read something where Schenn and Phaneuf didnt like each other at all. That true?

Most likely a product of the Toronto media's overactive imagination.
The rumour was that Schenn was pissed that he beat up his brother.
I have too much respect for L.Schenn to believe that's true.
I don't think Toronto ever lost patience with L.Schenn either(at the organizational level, mind you)... He's exactly the type of player Carlyle loves, and they hired one of the best skating coaches that could have helped him a lot.
I think they're just felt the potential in JVR was too great to pass up- especially under Carlyle's tutelage, and Philly just really wanted to have both the brothers.

I would not trade Couturier for Shattenkirk. Shattenkirk is a nice player, but he's not that good. For Pietrangelo I would, but not Shattenkirk.

The glaring, giant need on the Flyers blue line >>>>> Having both brothers.

Same. Shattenkirk is slightly overrated... He's only had one good year and he's isn't big at all, is average to decent defensively, and isn't a player I would target. Personally, I'd even rather have Yandle than Shattenkirk. Pietrangelo is the guy you wanna target... He's literally LIGHT YEARS better than Shattenkirk in EVERY aspect of the game.
