so is briere trade-able?
- MrBigglesworth

Good question. I think most Flyers fans think no. As in who would want him?
But I bet you there is someone out there who needs a center with a proven record, a high cap hit and a low salary who is willing to take a risk on him.
So I give him a 50/50 of getting traded versus bought out. Sure a team could pick him up on free agency but at his salary now? Who knows...
In Holmgren we trust.

EDIT: it is less likely considering his NMC, ties to the community and the fact he'd be leaving 3.3 million on the table if he lets himself be traded versus bought out.

He could easily just skate up to teammates and say it from behind his mask, or wait until he's back on the bench or in the room. There's really no good reason to make a show of it, and plenty of reasons why you shouldn't... namely it looks like he's intent on absolving himself of responsibility of the goal.

Unless you're in his head, you don't know for certain why he does it.... but what we do know is that it can be perceived as him being selfish or being a bad teammate.

So are you starting to lean more towards the buyout at this point even if it is in the summer of 2014? Next years artificial cap drop has me worried for the free cap space we'll need to address some of our defensive deficiencies.

And I loved regular season Roman Chechmanek.

- mayorofangrytown

I've been open to a buyout for awhile, but I need a logical path to get a replacement.

Does a buy out mean a return to the goalie du jour situation, with Mason and another guy(Emery?) playing the roles of Hackett & Esche, or Esche & Niittymaki or Biron & Niittymaki?

I'd like to see what Bryz can do behind a, hopefully, more defensively responsible team. But I could see them buying him out.

Send Coburn and Cousins to St. Louis for Shattenkirk. RH offensive Dman who has a good all around game. A Schenn/Shattenkirk would be a good top pairing for a long time

Twitter and bloggers were definitely driving most of the anxiety... Homer really has no track record of giving up his young players for rentals... he's more likely to parlay them for equally young talent, or go even younger. His scouting background seems to really inform his way of handling assets.

Possibly, but I think it was a lot more possible at the TDL than in the summer.

Yep, he saved a lot of face by being hurt at the TDL versus refusing to waive his NMC.

He's not making a show of anything. He's reacting with emotion. That is your opinion that he's looking to absolve himself of blame. You can't go around asking a player to change his personality.

You're are correct. Unless I'm in his head I don't know for certain why he does it? So why are you assuming why he does it?
Have you ever seen a defenseman or forward slam his stick and break it on the ice when a goal is scored? Maybe they should stop doing that because it shows up the Goalie, and could be perceived as such?
This is the kind of stuff that just needs to ignored. Because really, it amounts to nothing. And is making a mountain out of a molehill.

Looking to the sky = "I should have had that."

Shrugging and holding your arms out = "Jeez, I would have had that, but your asses were in the way."

It's not like this is the first time he's done that kind of thing. He's thrown his dmen under the bus before while in Philly, and we know that some of his dmen in Phoenix weren't exactly weeping when he left to sign here. It just fits in to the overarching narrative that he's pretty moody, self-absorbed, and generally kooky.

- Tomahawk

I thought that unless you're inside his head, you don't know why he's doing it? What happened to that?

Whoever they can get cheapest between Yandle and Shattenkirk, they need to trade for this summer.

Briere this summer, definitely.

Timing for Bryz would be better in summer 2014, I would think.

Intentional or not, it's still a bad goal. "incidental contact". If the goalie is not able to make a play because of the actions of a player on another team, intentional or not- the goal should be called back.
