Its not impossible but it needs to be taken with context that isn't entirely measurable in itself. Point being, would having BOB be our number 1, are we in the playoffs? Are we more comfortable with BOB when there is a 3 on 1 down low after a horrendous turnover and blown coverage?

Granted, I agree with you, there has to be comparisons. But context is key.

- GirouxForTheShow

Of course there has to be context. Does Bryzgalov face an inordinate amount of odd man rushes, and point blank shots? It appears he does, but is there a metric that measures this statistic for every team? If there is I haven't seen it.

My basic point is this, Bryzgalov hasn't been performed anywhere near good enough to validate his contract.

This I agree with, but I blame flyers management for that. And honestly I don't mind the cap hit as much as the length.

Like I said, I wanted to keep Bob. And this team has played horribly for most of the season while Bryz kept them in games. I'm fine with moving on from Bryz because what we are seeing is who he is as a goalie, but he's not the reason they are struggling. If you can't see that, I don't know what else o say. I'm not advocating for Bryz, I'm just looking at the whole picture.
- funmaster18

It's not even about Bobrovsky, I just used him as an example. The point is the 39 goaltenders ahead of Bryzgalov in save % aren't playing behind the 1995 Devils.

Im starting to be on the same boat. I don't blame Bryz because he is far from the only problem. However he isn't the answer, and he gets paid to be the answer sometimes. He rarely is. That could be pinned on the team in front of him, on exhaustion, low morale, the decimated blue line. But when push comes to shove he just looks lackadaisical sometimes and that irks me to no end.

I'd agree I think we could get the same output for someone cheaper. And I love to get Mason signed for 2 years, and see how he does over the next couple games.

- GirouxForTheShow

I dont want Mason being given the reigns right away. Thats what killed him in Columbus.

There are options. Hiller, Emery and Backstrom just to throw some names out. Anderson and Lehtonen could possibly be traded for if their organizations are willing to run with the younger kids. Hell even Elliot could probably get you a similar performance. Maybe St. Louis sours on Halak, but I wouldnt tie my boat to Bryzgalov because its nice to cheer for an underdog and his wacky personality. If there are no other options, Id stick with him. However if you can find something cheaper, I wouldnt mind that route either.

Expect the Philadelphia Flyers to thank coach Peter Laviolette for his service at the end of the season.

so if things go south we buyout bryz and danny which opens a lot of cap space, find another goalie to tandem with Mason (ie emery), retain huskins for depth and look to find one/two top 4 dmen.

sound about right?

Yup. Just pick em right off the tree.

That is what will haunt him.

The one thing that pisses me off more is the organization failed him to a degree as well. Horrific defense, and many forwards who have questionable defensive games to begin with. Along with no back-up.

Its failure all around, and doesnt come close to ending with Bryzgalov. Every player does matter though, especially in a salary cap era. The little tantrums, some quotes in the media, and body language on the ice kind of annoys me as much as anything else. Its been 2 long years, and while he isnt soley to blame, he has helped make his own bed.

My biggest issue is that a team that seemed so committed to the youth movement and accepting growing pains threw away bob so soon.

Im sure there is but I haven't seen it either. I would love to know of an advanced database where you can pull out that kind of info. Not just shot locations, but everything where you can customize your search.

You know, this almost has me leaning more toward buying out Bryzgalov. I am usually 50/50 on that regard but I wouldnt be against going with a fresh start. It might be good for the team.

I've said it for a while but Id want others gone as well. Coburn, Hartnell, Meszaros and Briere shouldn't be on this squad next season. Just me though, I know some disagree.

Time to build a proper culture, a proper team, and sorround the young kids with the right kind of players. No more chronically stupid, chronically inconsistent guys being paid big money, and expected to do big things for the team.

I'm ready for a coaching change. And to me, hartnell is too inconsistent for the role he is supposed to play on this team, IMO. He has moments where it's all worth it, but not consistently. The problem is you'd need to replace his ability as well as his personality as I think his personality is his biggest asset to the team at this point.

Going to be tough to move mez.

Just out of curiosity, why Hartnell? Because of the chronic stupid?

Yep. Maybe Mason can recapture his Calder days here. The kid has the size, quickness, etc... It's going to come down to whether or not he gets his head on straight, and is able to deal with pressure.

I would have liked to see them keep Bobrovksy.

Yet on a young team, I dont think its a wild idea to bring in a guy who is expected to provide stability.

I think Hartnell's foot is still bothering him, he isn't 100%. Losing him just for the sake of a culture change would be a mistake in my opinion.

You missed a lengthy conversation the other week.

Chronically stupid and chronically inconsistent, while being expected to be a role model for the kids, a veteran, and do big things for the team.

Talent is all for nothing, when you have no idea how it will be put forth on a given night, month or season.

I no longer want this organization to put its hopes, and take up valuable cap space toward such chronically inconsistent and chronically stupid players. Build a proper culture and identity, and sorround these kids with the right kind of players. I dont care if Hartnell statistically cant be replaced immediately. He may not be. Its time for a focus on the proper culture and identity, from the top of the organization down, and weeding out those who do not fit.

Build this thing right, it may take a couple of years more, but in the end it will pay off.

Has his foot effected his inconsistenty and downright stupidity in his tenure with the Flyers?

All is forgotten when he is playing well, but I no longer want this organization to tie itself to players who might completely dissapear for a playoff series for example.

Or be a liability, which Hartnell is far too often. I dont give a (frank) if he is goofy or makes the guys laugh. I rather have a year or two of say Morrow/Jagr that would infuse the right culture and way to play into the kids.
