He is good.. I am shocked he hasn't been traded.. I don't think they stand a chance vs the Pens. Boston can beat them though if Rask plays well. - Hextall271
He plays with such an edge for a skilled guy, hes got a quick release and has good vision. Him and Lupul tear it up when he is healthy. I'd think they'd stand a chance with a true #1 goalie and a healthy Lupul which was my original comment. |

With regard to Bryz:
You are insane if you think Mason should be the starter next year. No one, including Homer (as he has said) thinks the guy is anointed the starter for next year right NOW. He has to earn it and earn it while battling Bryz for the job. Bryz should not, and I believe will not, be bought out next year. If you buy him out then Mason is your starter. Insane. After next year? Yes, I actually hope so. His contract is a noose around this organizations neck.
Next year they buy out Briere to get under the cap. Bryz the following with, fingers crossed, Mason relieving him (or a UFA pickup/trade- not ideal but potentially necessary).
Mason will get 2M on a 1 year contract to battle Bryz next year as the starter. I hope one of them prevails as the obvious choice. Due to his terrible contract I hope it is Mason. - coffee junkie
The unfair criticism of Bryz is one thing.. opinion I guess..
calling to buy him out without a viable plan to replace him is flat out insane..People throw Bernier out there for fun withot considering what LA would want for him. So we trade picks or a young forward and weaken the team to get him? Two weeks in, he'd let in a bad goal and we'd be calling for his head, |

Id look to see if you can get Mason on a cheap 2 year deal, that way if you do buy out Bryz in 2014, you have Mason signed cheaper for another year regardless.

Get Mason in net. Lets see how he does. Bryz needs a break anyways. |

I think Vancouver is asking too much for Luongo.. Had they gotten him, they'd be better off.. I am sure you heard the rumours, but apparenlty, the Leafs had a deal for him, but TO wanted van to eat some of the money. |

Horrible.. why didn't he make 45 saves? Can we buy him out? |

Or trade him for Briere? I hear he's available and just what this team needs. |

From what I saw he was damn good, pretty nice to see him be a 3rd stringer in college to taking over the starting gig for of all teams the defending OHL champs and not skip a beat. |

Im sure Gillis didn't take that too well but I dont blame TO for asking at all. Reimer isn't a bad goalie, but he seems to fight the puck a lot and when you fight the puck you have a tendency to give up juicy rebounds. |

Still asking around to see if Laughton will or has been suspended. The OHL has said nothing to this point and they play tonight. |

Here's the thing.. with that contract, you can't expect to get very much.. maybe some prospects, but you are basically doing them a favour to take that contract. You are either going to have to take what they give you or buy him out and get nothing. |

I was actually very surprised that he wasn't dealt. Schneider is probably the hottest goalie in the league in the last month, 8 games started 6 wins 10 goals against with 3 shutouts. I thought after 3 years of him being on the trade block Gillis would understand that he wasn't gonna get full value with that contract. |

Isnt the Luongo buy out like 25 million owed to him? If Im vancouver I came that close to trading him...just hang on to him a team like the Flyers will come around and bail you out. |

I hope the Flyers shop Coburn hard at the draft and see if they can pickup a late first rounder. I see Huskins making better decisions in the same situations. How can we justify paying Mez 4 mil, Coburn 4.5 mil. When they have clearly struggled when asked to anchor the 2nd pairing. How is this justified? |

Y'know before everyone gets all misty eyed over one period of Steve Mason, maybe we should recognize there was a reason he was chased out of Star studded Columbus. For Micheal Leighton and a distant 3rd rounder(2015). The guy has a history of having trouble stringing any kind of decent play together and has fallen apart at the drop of a hat. His past play would make you yearn for Brzy's 'Consistancy'. So, this bed has been made for the time being. I don't see any reasonable upgrade for Bryz in the near future... so...
In other news, Question for Bill. What do you think of Philly's signing of Mark Alt? 6'3, Good Mobility, seems like a smaller version of Coburn, possilbly with some more offensive upside? Might end up being the real jewel from the reacquiring of Boosh? |

I'm all for giving the ball to Mason the rest of this season, see what we have going into next season. It will let Reese get a feel for what he needs to work with Mason on. If people want to buyout Bryz this summer, you'd better hope we get a decent 1B guy to split with Mason. Be careful for what you wish for, Mason has a long hill to climb before regaining his Calder form. |

I get more misty eyed over Steve Mason because he won the Calder Cup playing 61 games with a 2.29 GAA .920 SV and 10 shutouts on a god-awful Columbus team. He was top 3 reason why they made the playoffs that year. This is at 20 years old.
EDIT: He's got a lot to prove obviously to even consider that season as not an aberration. However, his Calder Cup, MVP of the world juniors talent isn't a fallacy. |

I'm still not sure why people keep throwing Mike Smith out there. He is putting up worse numbers in PHX than Bryz did. How is that supposed to translate to anything better here?
I do agree tho if Bryz gets bought out (which I hope he doesn't) they need to get Emery or maybe even Thomas. Not sure how easy that is going to be.
Trading any more assets for a goalie is an absolute ludicrous approach at this point in my opinion. |

I've been saying it for awhile now. Coburn, Mez, Briere, Grossmann, and picks can get us TWO great defenseman. As much as I like Briere and Grossmann, I think this is best for the Flyers as a team. |
