Anything in Saads contract if he won ROY that might hinder our salary cap this summer?

Just starting to catch up, but does maybe Saad's game resemble Erik Cole?

Part of Olesz's struggle is that he never properly healed from previous knee issues/surgeries. But now Rusty is suppose to be 100% so his situation is different than it has been in the past.
- DarthKane

Ok why did he stink before his knee surgeries?

Sounds great...April came in like a lion in Southern Ontario. Very windy and cold the first week...now we're into more seasonal temps which are a bit more comfortable.

To put things in perspective.....and hopefully this ends the discussion. Even before the knee surgeries......in any NHL season, mostly with the panthers......he failed to average a half point per game......as the 7th pick in the draft that is horrible. Now you can make the argument players can do other things to create value but good ole Rusty doesn't do anything else to create value and the thing he was drafted for....scoring.....he has failed to do that in his NHL career...........

That was inexcuseable. Can't imagine the Hawks marketing monolith was too happy about that. I guess that's what happens when you share your public address announcer with the Sox who apparently get first dibs, which is why we had the fill in at the UC.
- Baaaaaaannerman!

Actually, the Sox didn't have anything to do with it. Honda is the PA guy for the Final Four (has been doing it for a few years now) so he is in Atlanta. If he was at Comiskey he would have had plenty of time to get over to the UC.

My own view on Saad was that i wasn't sure if he was ready either, but that i would just sit back and enjoy watching his development and try not to get mired in the lively discussion surrounding his readiness.

He's given all Hawk fans a reason to smile this year and hopefully for many more to come.

Nice post Phil -- sort of my attitude too -- figured that I couldn't handle another man-child adoption since I already have Leddy to worry about!

Al noted this in one of his posts a few days ago about Leddy's wide stance/wide base for skating. This is the EXACT same thing I see with the Saad-father and Toews and a few others. Of course, with Leddy, he's got that magical unicorn speed that makes one wonder where the hell it comes from.

Oh and speaking of Jesus, my family just doesn't get it -- I yelled when the Saad-father scored yesterday and the wife asks who scored. "Jesus," I replied. You should have seen the look I got. Had to try and explain it and when I got done, the look was even worse as if to say, WTF is wrong with you and your internet hockey buddies???

Hayes actually. Unfortunately I think he may end up as a tweener, like the proverbial AAAA baseball player...a Steve Maltais type. Terry Broadhust was flying all night, too bad he's a smurf, and Nordstrom was solid.

my understanding is performance bonus $$ are already built into the cap hit #. However I think certain accomplishments are also standard in most entry level contracts: cup win, con smythe, calder etc...this is what further hurt the hwks post 2010 salary cap woes. Toews and Kane received bonus $$ for winning the cup and Toews for Con Smythe to the tune of $2-4 mil that counted against next years cap. Very unusual for your top 2 players to still be on rookie contract and win the cup.

So I expect Saad has similar provisions in his contract.

Source - I am on your side in this discussion. But referring to his draft slot or contract have little weight because they don't matter one bit it determining whether he could help the Hawks the rest of this year. He probably won't be here because the Hawks don't need whatever it is he could provide (not sure what that might be, myself).

Correct but the argument or discussion went down the path of him being healthy from his knee surgeries. The reason why I brought up his previous stats before the surgeries was to show how bad he was then........and was drafted 7th to be a scorer...something he hasn't done his whole career. I have not mentioned his salary at anytime as to why he shouldn't be brought up.

Appreciate this

St. Pierre's really grown on me during my glances at Hogs games on hockeystreams. Nice hands, great wheels and he wears the C. Wish the org would reward him with a cameo at some point.

John Jaeckel: The Saad Truth
- John Jaeckel

Not going to read all the posts yet--lots of work to do for the rest of the day. But I compared him to Hossa on here the other day, but in the context of discussing Sassone's article that compared Saad to Secord. I questioned the comparison, and in that context suggested that the player he seems like the most (on the present roster) might be Hossa. But that's not saying he will become as good as Hossa, just that comparing him to Hossa was a better compariosn than to Secord--despite sharing number 20.
