I cant see the Flyers making a big push for Big Buff....Think Shatty and Yandle are their main targets. Anybody else not that high on Barkov? Just dont see the "wow" factor scouts are talking about all I see if a power forward which Flyers have plenty of. - flyerfan28
Ugh...no Buff, plz. He just seems like drama to me. |

I agree. Schenn's been slumping, yet it's rare we see a shake up of his line with Simmonds.
Now that the are 5 points out, with 9 games to play, I'd like to see Couturier bumped up to a scoring line, and maybe Schenn moved to a wing.
I'd be OK with something like this:
19-28-93
12-14-17
15-10-24
26-18-9/37 - Jsaquella
I want to see Gagne or Read on the first line for now. |

If it takes one of them to land Shattenkirk, I'd rather sign a guy like Streit to a 2 or 3 year deal, despite his over 35 status.
Trading one of them for a guy who is just a really nice top 4 defenseman, is probably a bad move. - Jsaquella
I'm of the opinion that they Flyers could use two such top 4 players, especially if a bona-fide #1 just isn't available (which is likely). I don't have much confidence in Mez given his questionable health, we don't have Pronger anymore, Carle is gone, we soon won't have Timonen. That's a lot of production that ultimately needs to be replaced.
So, we're basically looking at Schenn, Coburn and Grossmann as the core right now...while they do a fair job of moving the puck out of the zone and can make an ocassional productive visit into the offensive zone, they aren't adept in moving the puck up in transition and aren't effective enough offensely to move the needle. They are probablty best suited be the stay at home complements to more dynamic and offensively skilled players like Yandle, Shattenkirk of even a Buff. There are also some other possibilities to pick up offensive capable guys, via trade and/or a short term gap signing like a one or two year for Streit or Corvo, Rozsival or perhaps a reclamation bid with a bought out Kaberle, or something else that might present itself.

I still think the biggest issue is the coach. If it's Laviolette, I'd like to see them stick with a more responsible two way system, that isn't prone to breakdowns and odd man rushes and I'd like to see the younger players handled a lot more responsibly.
His handling of Couturier is enough for me to fire him. It's rare to see a kid who the organization feels is untouchable to be stuck playing with the kind of linemates Couturier has had to deal with, getting virtually no time at 5 on 5 in a scoring line role.
Laviolette's handling of him is why other teams seem to think they can poach him cheaply, because he's used as a 4th liner, almost exclusively. - Jsaquella
Lavy should be canned.... No adjustments, no timing, a one trick pony |

Yes, change up the lines. Bump up Couts. Break up B Schenn and Simmonds...they are a (frank)ing defensive nightmare with no chemistry 5 v 5. Now is the time to tinker.

I'm sure the Flyers love Buff's size (even if it is a bit much). The whole lazy thing is a bit overrated imo. Perhaps he'd benefit from a change of scenery/new start. If deployed with proper support, he can be a dynamic offensive force from the blueline without being a defensive liability. Yeah, I have some interest in Buff, but I'd be hesitant to include top young roster players in a deal for him. Maybe a 1st in 2014 or 15. Or a top prospect and a 2nd or maybe something like Hartnell and a 2nd/3rd if they have interest... |

If I'm the Flyers, I pick a defenseman with this year's first - Nurse or Ristolainen - and go after Streit, then look to FA to fill out my defensive corps. And if there's any way to swing it, there are quite a few players I'd deal for another early-to-mid first round pick.

Yeah, from Chicago to Atlanta to...Winnipeg...he just might not be a fan of the locale. |

If he becomes a Flyer he will never win another game in Philly. - wilsonecho91

Yup. And at 33, he should have a few more good years left in him. And he's obviously a favorable cap hit. He could replace any of Walker, Lilja, or Foster. |

Oh goodness. I went into the Islanders blog. I thought I was happy for them,
But they're already threatening to mercilessly attack all transgressors. And Capuano is the new Chadwick. |

Finally, Bob is a cruel joke. We all saw the talent and work ethic. This story line is the worst. Just sucks no matter what is said. |

Hindsight is 20/20 but I wish Laviolette had been more patient with Bob back in 2011. He may have been the catalyst for our goalie death spiral.

Not reading the link, but that particular indictment of Lavi was brought up by Jsaq at least a week and a half ago. There is no "may" about it. The handling of Bob in the 2011 playoff run screwed the goalie situation. |

That's because Philly thinks they can win cup every year. Even when it's a rebuild. I've stated many times go young Because we traded carts and rItchie And are rebuilding. We should have kept bob but it's done and we have mason now. Buy out bryz and briere get a vet to go with mason. We aren't winning cup in the Next few years so see what we have in mason. Work on the d and get a true scoring 1st line winger. Once core gets more mature if mason doesn't work out at least all we will need is goalie then you make that move. Oh wait didn't I lay this plan out 2 + months ago when I said this team isn't close to a cup. NeverMind I'm stupid forget this post |
