sorry, thought that was you. def want to bring in another young guy w/ some NHL exp and have him compete w/ mason...kinda what i wanted to do w/ bob before we went w/ bryz. ultimately, i think a younger guy is the way to go...gotta stop w/ these LT contracts. no interest in luongo. - isaiah520
And if one of those young players you want to bring in, works out. Then there will be a long term contract regardless. If the results are there, the contract isn't an issue. Whether you want to blame the player, the team around him or whatever. The results aren't there right now. I personally think looking solely at the player, is foolish. But there is something to be said, that if that's the results you're going to get. Then might as well go with a cheaper option. But I don't see that resulting in a Stanley Cup win. Bottom line is that there is a lot this team has to fix with the way it has played this year. |

I would be ok with that. Just want no part of his current contract. - nastyflyergirl
neither do i, and apparently neither do any other GMs. canucks are in a conundrum. sure they don't want to spend ALL that money just to make him go away, but they don't want the distraction either. other teams have some leverage. they could even want some picks for taking on the poopty contract - ie, it's the cost of doing business. hell, holmgoblin has been in that situation himself. do they want to give up picks too, just to get rid of him? it might be in their best interest simply to cut bait and wash their hands without hitting their cap or giving up any other assets. if they do this, you can be sure that the flyers would swoop in - but Lu will be a FA then. he can go wherever the hell he wants at that point - which could be Toronto or Florida. He'd have to really WANT to come here.

he is still due 40,570,000 over the next 9 yrs. that said Bryz is still owed 34,500,000 over the next 7. will the Flyers really be willing to eat that money? at least in Briere's case, he is only making 5 millon over the next 2 years. |

I have a hard time believing the bean counters are going to be willing to eat that. But anything can happen. |

i'm sure they don't like the idea of eating cash. it's a lot of money to dump on one to go away and then spend on another...but hey, it's not our money. and snider wants another cup. badly. he's liable to do anything. the cup is forever, even after he's dead. money comes and goes. |

what makes it tough is it is not a cut and dried decision with Bryz
he has had some good moments and obviously some bad ones
as we know too well from the daily back and forth in here |

the canucks could buy him out the summer. the flyers could get him at a bargain bin price, and dispatch bryz themselves. mason stays on as back up. - hammarby31
Why the hell would do that when they could get an asset of some kind for him and not pay a dime? Makes zero sense. |

it does make sense if they can't get the deal they want for him. why take on assets they don't want and have it affect their cap hit if they can just pay to make him go away? obviously they would prefer to trade him for assets they want rather than dumping cash. |

I heard the rumor that on deadline day Toronto's offer was Luongo for Scrivens and a 2nd and 3rd round pick, which was acceptable, but the Canucks had to eat some of Lu's salary. The Canucks didn't want to eat any salary and the deal fell through.
Not sure if true, obviously. |

Flyers defenseman Marc-Andre Bourdon takes long view about resuming career
http://www.philly.com/phi...bout_resuming_career.html - wolfhounds
Bourdon actually had THREE concussions in one year, not two. He started game one of the Flyers-Penguins series, left the game early with an upper-body injury and never so much as practiced again during the playoffs.

I wonder if Luongo would be a fit in NJ.
Wouldn't work if Brodeur comes back next year, though |

It's been reported that it was two seconds and Scrivens, and it was Vancouver's offer, not the Leafs' offer.
And that the Leafs said no when Vancouver wouldn't eat some of Luongo's salary.
But no way of proving it. |

Luongo's wife lives in Florida, so if Vancouver does the unthinkable and buys him out, it's going to be pretty hard for another team to convince him to sign.
IMHO, he's going to offer his services to Florida at a cut rate. |

of course the contract is an issue. and if a guy can prove that he can deal w/ the heat here, i have less trepidation about going longer term.
there are no cups in the flyers future w/ the way they are playing of course, but they have so many needs and a smaller cap amt w/ which to meet them...and i don't think anyone here that's worth a reply is blaming bryz alone. it just hasn't worked out overall and that's on homer to a significant degree. i'm anxious to see the latest plan...should be an interesting summer of plyr movement and possible coaching changes.
gotta cut out now.... |

I think if I'm forced to choose between Dreger and some blogger at the Vancouver Sun (truly one of the worst newspapers on the planet - only rivaled by it's sister rag the Vancouver Province - a newspaper so bad it has a factual error in its name), you'll excuse me if I side with Dreger.
For some odd reason, Vancouver fans (and bloggers) have a hard time grasping that a 34 year old goalie with 9 years left on his deal may not have much trade value. |

If the results are there and Bryzgalov plays at a high level, the contract is absolutely not an issue, in my opinion. If the Flyers were winning, and Bryzgalov was playing at a high level, I would have little concern about the contract. |
