it was an eye injury. If it was a shoulder or ankle injury, sure. Jones just falls a lot and is found out of position more often than not - TheNugeIsHuge
No one minded Jones' game when he was producing. I think his abnormally low shooting percentage - which could have a lot to do with an eye injury - is a big reason people have gone sour on him. |

I still think Jones is a great utility guy, can slot into the top 6 if needed, pops in the odd goal, good on the pk, and brings energy every shift. Should be on the fourth line more than the third, but he is still a better option than Smyth or petrell. |

the facts dont matter.
in their infinite wisdom some fans have decided one of our biggest needs is goaltending....and thats final.
dont try and argue - hugefemale dog77
Duby is a starter. A decent tender. Not a top 10 goalie despite that stat. The thing is, our d is not consistent either. So we either bring in a 1-2 dman and another one (Klef if he is as good as clout says, I like the way Petry is heading and Smid's game the last month). OR we bring in a better, more consistent tender. The thing is that the d is hard to come by, there is a top 5 tender on the trading block that no one seems to want. At least we need to bring in a backup better than Dannis in the offseason. |

I dream of watching a team like Florida, Tampa, or Carolina win the lotto and select Jones 1st overall. Oh the look on the Sherman's face would be priceless! - MaximumBone
Nah, if the isle don't make the playoffs, I am cheering for them to get it. Those guys have always been great for trading away all stars for nothing. It will be two jokes in one. |

LA did a lot of building by trades like Richards/Carter/Penner etc....Your team doesn't trade. They just try the waiting game basically. There should be a rule for teams like EDM not to be able to have the chance the 1st pick for 4 straight years. most of the teams had to be in the top 5 in drafting twice to be able to change direction. It's been 3 1st picks for EDM and there's still not so much change or minor changes only - koarik91
I think that LA has done a better job at drafting and developing depth that allowed them to make those trades. The Oilers don't have much to work with.Sure you can trade Hemsky because we have Yakapov in place, but seriously none of our key guys or "untouchables" can be moved because we don't have anyone good enough to fill their spot.Hell, even if someone wanted him, we couldn't move Horcoff because we have no one else to good enough to be 3rd line center yet. The market for Hemmer is soft, there is simply nobody interested. I know as well as anyone that there is a spot on the left side for big body with some scoring touch, or a need for that physical ,big bodied center for the 2nd line, and no doubt we need that stud defender, but there is nobody on the farm or prospect pool ready to help us or any team looking to improve their club. Our soon to be UFA Veteran players are servicable, but not going to get us better than a 3rd rounder each. |

Smithson's 6'3 200+. 54.8% or something in the dot - TheNugeIsHuge
Smithson's a PK specialist that is a career - something large. His face off is barely over 50 and can't skate.
Smyth gets bought out, he has to go, sorry but we need do it nicely as he is a great guy but he is not going to get better next year. Jones has to go just do to the excess forwards we have. He is good and will rebound and probably turn into a glencross player but Tambellini keeps signing guys like Smithson and our bottom 6 is clogged. Trading Moving Paajarvi up doesn't improve our top 6, so trading Hemsky has to bring back a top 6 player. Maybe we can sign one.
Smithson needs replacing and the guy to do it is Ott from Buffalo. I keep saying it, 3rd highest in hits in the league, way better in faceoffs, can skate and put points up. Buffalo is in rebuild so our prospects are desirable to them. Maybe one of our 3 (Musil?) and a second.
Then I would try to trade for Dion, who would be easier to get than Yandle by far and gives more size to our D (plus he is a hometown boy) or free agent Striet.
I would also trade for Lou but that is just me. I miss the days that the Oilers won by having a top 5. Not since cujo or ranford. I want those back. |

I would like to see the Oilers win the lottery. That would be the perfect trading chip to bring in a top two defenceman or a top six power forward. Also could you just imagine all the whining from the rest of the NHL. |

If you (frank)ing suggest picking up Luongo one more time I swear to god I'm going to reach through your computer, shove my fist down your throat, grab your nutsack and pull it back out of you mouth and wrap it around your head like a hat!
(just kidding of course, but I think you get the idea of how much Lou sucks and in no way should the Oil go anywhere near him) |

Lou is not much more of a cap hit than duby and what we get for duby in trade (can't afford to keep both) wouldn' be much different than what Van has to be willing to settle for now. Both NYI and PHO have no goalies next year. Duby could get us assets from them that Van would want. 1.8 mil cap hit difference gets us to a top 5 tender. Phaneuf is a gamble but few top 2 d aren't unless we part with a ton for them. Maybe Hamhuis since Van is against the cap due to their d? |

You do better. Is duby a cup winning tender? You suggesting the same d next year? - bsteinley
Yes. Duby is fine. He's better than other goalies that have won in the past.
I've already posted my upgrades.
Next year:
Hall/Nuge/Ebs
New LW/Gags/Yak
MPS/Horc/Harti
Petrell/Lander/Brown
Smytty
J Schultz/ New D

How long did it take for the kings to build that core of doughty, brown, kopitar, quick before they went out and made next step moves?
What about pittsburgh with crosby, malkin, letang, fleury before they did the same?
Chicago and keith, toews, seabrook, kane....?
The oilers started their rebuild in 2010 regardless of how u wanna see it. As sad as it is to say, they did anything but before that. If ud like to get into specifics, by all means. I got another couple hours to kill...

Pitt and chi each had important pieces that helped win the cup on ELC .... So for the oil these trades would have to happen sooner then you think |
