It's odd how different I feel about the team today compared 1-2 years ago. I feel like its very disorganized. It's like they had zero plan last offseason, short of king all in on 3 players you had a good chance of not being able to acquire.
I just hope they make the right moves this offseason so they don't get set back any further. |

Haha lots of problems for sure but I hope they just fix this right for one (frank)ing time. It might take a few years but just build the thing right. This organization is becoming a laughing stock, and rightfully so. - flyer_nutter
To the rest of the hockey world we're the Oakland Raiders except we win a bit more. |

From top to bottom.
This is getting to get a feel to me a little bit of like what Chicago had to endure for so many years. Snider, and the upper management needs to go imo. Wont happen but one can dream.

That may be, but I'm not sure saying you don't care if youre a flyer next year is going to help anything. - funmaster18
My take is that he was trying to say that he has no control over management decisions so why worry about it.
"I maybe want one thing and they want a different thing" doesn't say to me that he doesn't care whether he's a Flyer next year. In fact you can choose to read it as meaning the opposite - that he wants to stay but if the brass moves him, he won't sweat it. |

Yet it just creates more BS, because people expect that kind of stuff from him because of last year which is not forgotten.
He should know by now, and his team will have to answer questions about it. Bryzgalov had the opportunity to make it a non-issue by giving a classic cliche answer, or saying he simply wants to remain a Flyer. He opened the box, and that is on him. His team will now, like many times before, have to answer for his actions. |

I am really curious as to what they are going to do. You can make an argument for both decisions and I'm still not sure where I land on the issue. A 10 game tryout for mason won't help me in that decision, either.
I wish they would have just kept BOB and let te young team grow together. |

Media or no media his job is to stop pucks. He was very good to start the year and not so good lately. The Flyers acquired him to be a difference maker and thats not the case. We can blame media, coach, players, style, team defense but in reality he needs to be better. I believe he has the talent to be successful here but he needs to do it on the ice. The rest will take care of itself. |

They aren't used to not getting what they want.
Decisions were made last off season that weren't the usual. How many times do you offer a player the most money and they turn you away, let alone twice in the same off season? Then a broke team matches an enormously front loaded deal... I had a hard time envisioning Nashville matching but there it was.
I think the moves with Carter and Richards turned the tide of player opinion that was started with the Roenick and Gagne moves amongst others. Holmgren has been a bit more business like dealing with players than the formerly family friendly team is known for.
Buying out Bryzgalof and Briere will cement the new reputation. |

If the team was smart, they'd just let it go. It'll be on the bottom of the birdcage tomorrow with the rest of the garbage reporting. |

Just for curiosity, what would you want that identity to be? I think shifting toward more consistent talent in all 3 zones is a must.
However there seems to be a vibe that the shift should go toward a more defensive first scheme. Offensive, and defensive styles both have big advantages and disadvantages if they are employed correctly. Both need certain kinds of players to make them work well.
If its not with Lava, who I agree probably needs to go, I'd still like them to be somewhat of an aggressive team, and carry that phisolophy. Something like Chicago, Pittsburgh or even Detriot to a degree. |

There is no need for it though.
He couldnt have answered much differently and made it a complete non issue.
If this was the first time with Bryzgalov alright, but the team has had to cover for his ass too much over the last 2 years. The media is what it is, and Bryzgalov falls for the game too easily. |

During the offseason Holmgren wanted him to change his style to focus more in the defensive zone. Why hire a coach whos all about attack (bc thats what you wanted) then decide a few years later to change it.
Stick to a style and draft players that fit it this way it doesnt matter who the coach is the players know what to expect and can be developed correctly. |

Chicago and Pitt can play this way bc they have Norris caliber #1 D men. And plenty of capable mobile dmen to boot. I like Lavas aggressive style but the defense is not built for it at all. |

Or they will make moves, and simply rely on certain players to only get them back into the dance, because "anything can happen".
Instead of working toward being a consistently elite team for a number of seasons, that doesnt have to win a shootout to make it to the SCF. |

Funny. I was saying that a few weeks ago. Not the same way, I mean it's not because Snider is cheap, and the organization as a whole is run very well as a business (which the Blackhawks weren't--they made changes throughout the business). But the hockey side is stuck in time warp somehow. And Snider making pronouncements is a big part of that. We don't really know how good or bad a GM Homer is if the big moves he's made were scripted by big Ed. |

Winning a shootout round 1 against the "Burgh is all well and good but when you get to NJ and have to play responsible and you can't that's a problem. They didn't want him to change his style just reign it in a little. After all we weren't going to replicate the 80s Oilers machine.
Given a training camp it could well have worked but this is just a mess. |

It seemed like everyone knew Parise and Suter were likely to sign together an likely in Minnesota. I don't know he we waited so long on them. I didn't think that was going to happen. With weber, I too thought we were almost certain in acquiring him, but when they didn't, there was no contingency plan. Unless you call gervais a contingency plan. |
