I am all but certain that Lavi gets the axe as most are saying. They just don't seem to respond to him in big games etc this year.
Also, I thought Mason looked good in the part of the game I saw..(3rd).. As has been said many times, the issue isn't goaltending.. This just isn't a very good team right now. Fix the D, get a new coach, and go into next year with Bryz and Mason.. - Hextall271

And that is probably the one thing that makes me the angriest.
The nonchalant "we have plenty of time" attitude that the team (and some fans) had in the beginning of the year when the team was obviously repeating negative patterns from the year before. - johndewar
i agree...
when it comes to the playoffs, i will be at the shore, the beach or at some other sporting event. something outside, depending on the weather. Crazy weather, looking to spend it outside. |

same ole thing over and over...homer wanted a aggressive coach to implament a "hunt the puck" mentality and we got it, leaving our d and any goalie out to dry on most nights.
now we want a d-minded coach and a different goalie and so on.
what i see is a good team with a ton of injuries, youth/inexpierience and a coach with a worn out message and a gm who presses the panick button too fast in years past to model the team after last years winner. - mydoglicks
Hopefully they model after the kings....build a strong farm and pipeline to the big team, so when players get hurt you dont have to rely on the likes of gervais foster and lilja. |

Disaster of a season. It happens.
The two positives are:
1. The long standing goaltending issues that have plagued this franchise have finally been put to bed.
2. The team has shown an ability to stay healthy. - PLindbergh31
How have the goaltending issues been out to bed ? I haven't watched much flyers this year, also just curious who do you guys have coming through the farm system that has much hype ? These are honest questions not trying to make fun... Who are your two buyouts ? Your cap is not good next year so I'm guessing you'll use one if not both ? |

I'm wondering if Laviolette is going to be fired after this season.
I can easily see a scenario where the Flyers start the season with Laviolette next year and see how it goes. |

I guess I was in the 10% then. I wanted him to have one more year as the starter. His growth in that first year, which was amazing considering it was his first year in the US, plus his work ethic and atheticism were the things that impressed me most. A young goalie can always flame out Sophomore year (see Mason, Steve) but I really thought he had potential to be a special goalie. - TheGreat28
Another 10% guy here.

I had no problem with bringing Bryz in... although the contract seemed a little much.. I figured he would be loaned to the KHL at some point... The move I didnt like, or understand, was trading Bob. I remember a lot of people talking about having so much money invested in two goalies.. but look at us now. |

The farm system isn't much. There is a lot of garbage and the AHL affiliate comes by their poor record honestly.
We are looking forward to Scott Laughton, Nick Cousins, and Shayne Gostisbehere, but frankly, a franchise player is not walking through that door (at least not one that we know of).
The two buyouts are likely Briere this year and, possibly Bryz next year.

I haven't read through all the pages yet but here are my thoughts:
I wasn't particularly happy with the officiating last night. Sure they let them play but the Islanders sure did take more advantage of it. Running over Mason, head hits, high sticks, boarding. Come on!
And our D coverage was abysmal. Huskins and Schenn were our best D. Really? Timmo looked very slow out there (see ancient), don't get me started on Gervais as I still can't find the words to describe how bad his decisions were and Lauri made a good play then a miserable one - he was seriously inconsistent.
But the thing that truly burned me up is that the ONLY player to connect a pass was G. Hartnell couldn't hit the broadside of a barn last night with a pass and it was ALL 60 minutes. I seriously thought I was watching under 6 yr-olds out there learning to pass. It was disgraceful.
This team is better than that.
It was nice to see a goalie who could move the puck, a seriously refreshing change. And his stopping of break-aways was unexpectedly nice. Would I have liked him to get any of the ones that went in? Sure. But overall I wasn't disappointed in Mason. I hope Lavi goes back and forth between him and Bryz for the rest of the season.
At this point these guys are playing for their jobs next season. |

I have no problem with getting Bryz per se. What I did have a problem with was how they handled Bob in the playoffs the previous season. He had one bad period and was stapled to the press box for the duration after pretty much being the guy all season.
It was no coincidence the only game they were competitive in was the last game against Boston when they finally let him play again.
After that Snider does his thing, here comes Bryz, there goes Bob after the next season. |

I think there is just a lack of talent, guys playing in spots "higher" then they should be.
Look at the top 6 forwards, the defense has been discussed into the ground already.
B Schenn could very well be a 2nd line center some day.
The only time he looked like it this year was when he played with Jacob Voracek.
He was very hot for a few games with Czechie on his wing.
Czechie is really the only legit top six winger this year on this team. He has made every line he played on better. One of the few bright spots this season. A guy to build around.
He really benefitted from his time with Jagr, and uses the Jagr butt forcefield very effectively to keep defenders away. One of the few puck possession guys they have.
Hartnell can do it and has in the past, but he does not even look like an NHL player on most shifts this season. Hopefully he rebounds next year, or maybe they can include him in a trade to upgrade the D.
I love Simmonds, he is a beast and great on the PP, but 5 vs 5 he really is a 3rd line winger. He could be a top 6 guy with better defensive play, maybe.
Read is more of a utility guy then a true top 6 wing. He has a good shot and good speed, maybe a little small to put out there against the bigger wings in the East like Lucic, Nash, Kovalchuk, etc. Before his injury he showed signs of maybe being a top 6 wing.
Ideally he is a third liner who can move up and down, and play special teams.
Briere on wing, forget it.
G is obviously the top center, but he has not had a great season.
Couts was showing some signs of improvement recently, but most of the season has been "a learning process".

The part that really bugs me is how we signed Bryz. The Flyers traded for his rights, then paid him the huge value he was going to get on the market. Why bother trading for him, then? They chose to bid against themselves. |

Philly.com in full on Braden Schenn is a bust mode. It must be horrible to be only 21 and know your career is already over.

"Steve Mason did a decent job in net for the Flyers in his first start, but it was nothing significantly better or worse than Ilya Bryzgalov likely would have produced"
But the cost was significantly less... |
