See this is where you're wrong and let me explain why......and I promise I will try to be polite.

There are two types of AHL players.....prospects and journeyman.....

Prospects are called up from time to time to see what they can do....judge their talent level while playing against the best of the best....some stick like a Shaw or a Saad. Others take a while or become tweeners till they are ready like a Morin or a Hayes....

Journeyman like Olesz have played in the NHL and have been scouted extensively throughout their careers.....they have a "book" on them. Every one knows what their potential is or what type of NHL player they are......because they've played in the show. They are not going to get better....they simply are who they are. There are no suprises with them and that is why he will not be called up any time soon because as he may be lighting it up in the AHL the "book" on him has shown he will not come close to that in the NHL.

Here is a better way of understanding it......think of a Heisman trophy winner who was a world beater in college.......that didn't last more than three seasons in the NFL because his skill set and game didn't translate to NFL success....

I understand the points you make surely, I simply make the notion that whether the "book" that you mention about Olesz as a player says everything needed to be said, if (and that's a big fat "if") he's up to play in Chicago there will be a reason.

Since you suggest the Hawks and everyone else knows everything there is to know about Olesz's game, the hypothetical call-up would have to have some sort of additional logical reason, because as you note, they seemingly know everything his game brings (or doesn't).

I only say that if Olesz ever smells an NHL game again he will likely have earned the opportunity to do so, because as it stands the likelihood that he ever plays in the NHL again is very slim if non-existent.
