do they get penalized for leaving them on during fights or taking them off - bogiedoc
Pretty sure there is no penalty for leaving them on since most fights happen so fast. Have seen juniors shed their buckets by mutual agreement and square up...but not too much of that lately.
Attitudes about helmet tossing during fights changed a lot after this

So lets get this debate going....
Line 1: saad, toews, Hossa. I don't see how anyone argues that.
Line 2: carcillo, Sharp, Kane. I pray to GOD that it's not Bolland up here, and I could stomach a Frolik in Carcillo's spot
Line 3: bickell, Handzus, Stalberg....The key to the Hawks is when this line is contributing and right now it's contributing.
Line 4: Frolik, Bolland, Bolig. Honestly, I know it's hard to scratch Kruger, but as long as Carcillo is NOT taking stupid penatlies and looking out of place on line 2, and Bolig is being physical on line 4...I don't see a need to play Kruger. You make up for his PK with Handzus, who is extremely more valuable in the faceoff department...and honestly your only glaring faceoff hole would be BOlland on line 4.... - SteveRain

Then why does everyone think he'll be too expensive for the Hawks to re-sign? Other teams see the same player. - StLBravesFan
look at the recent history of UFA signings...high demand + GM desperation = overpay!
this summer might be different cuz of CBA, lower cap and many buyouts coming but a 27 year old guy with his tools and rate of improvement will get GM's to bite.... |

Is that true? That's been said here several times - but playing a man short is always a tremendous disadvantage, no matter how bad the power play - if nothing else, it hurts your offensive play, but the bad PP team still has a much better chance of scoring with a man advantage. - StLBravesFan
It's a potential strategy especially for a first round match up. If you can get the Hawks to play a retalliation game they don't want to play and aren't suited to play, punch Toews, Hossa and Kane in the head after each whistle and take your chances being short a few times a game. At a 16% powerplay I'd be willing to try it knowing I have no other way of beating the Hawks. |

I agree they need one of Bollig or Carcillo. I just think the guy should be Carcillo. He can slide up and down, he can play with our top 6, or in our bottom 6. He just needs to stay at that line, keep away from crossing it. - droe411
Carcillo's definitely more well rounded than B-52...and he usually gets a few good scoring chances during a game. Bollig's out more for deterrence, whereas Carcillo's out there to play 3 zone hockey. Love Bollig, but Carcillo's my choice...if it were between those two. |

Easy...who played with Kane and Hossa last year before blowing out his knee? That would be Mr. Carcillo.
Carcillo used to be a top 6 guy in this league, and fairly decent back with Phoenix.
Comparing a pile of crap like Olesz to Carcillo is pathetic. Move along.... |

I disagree. I think Bollig is a better hitter, has a better shot and plays better in his own zone. He also plays a simple game and does not do anything to pretend to be something else.
Bollig = reliable. Caricllo = gorilla salad. |

Fair enough...but i'll take Car Bomb's 300+ NHL games experience to Bollig's 30+...especially in the playoffs.
Bollig's turned himself into a decent player and is a good enforcer, but Carcillo even with bad knees, is a far better skater and in the playoffs.... skate/shoot/pass...knock 'em on their a s s. |

The Hawks need to play their game come play off time. Trying to all of sudden make the team more physical by putting Bolling and Carcillo in the line up at the same time would open up more holes and decrease their chances of going deep in the post season. We all wish they were more physical and the FO added more physicality at the trade deadline but, it didn't happen. The thought of benching Kruger for Bollig is asinine and if it ever happened Q should immediately be fired. They added Handzus to help at the dot and also add some size. If Sharp takes the draws on the 2 the problem is solved and with a puck possession team this will make them so much more better. The Hawks #1 problem going into the post season is the pp. They fix this they go to the cup. Teams will be physical with them and not worry about penalties if the Hawks can't convert on the pp. They will stop being physical with them if they can fix it.

Also Carcillo can and has played on the top 2 lines, I can't see Quenneville putting Bollig there. |

No I'm not going to move along....was Carcillo a top six guy with Philadelphia ? No!...and his play hasn't supported him playing there this year. It is ridiculous that you would suggest benching our best pk'er in Kruger to play Bollig...and I wasn't comparing Olesz to Carcillo.....I comparing the thought process. My suggestion would be to read your posts a half dozen times then come back two hours later and reread them another half dozen times before hitting send.... |

Carcillo isn't a top 6 forward in this league. He isn't paid like one and he isn't given ice time like one.
He played that role with Hossa and Kane last year... a strong 2 way forward who can't be knocked off the puck and the best playmaker in the league. Throw any veteran who can skate decently on that lne and they'll look like they belong.
Also and perhaps more importantly, last years team did not have the depth that this years team has. |

You didn't answer my question...didn't Carcillo play with Hossa and Kane last year? Wasn't Carcillo on the top line to start this year? Didn't Carcillo get some time on the 2nd line this past weekend?
Yes...You need somebody to go grind in the corners. A 1 armed sharp can't do it...Kane can't do it....YOu need space for Kane to be effective, and putting Carcillo there, gives him space.
Handzus is a better PK player then Kruger for 1 reason alone....He will win the draw, and clear the zone...knocking off a good 20+ seconds. Kruger, like Bolland, is horrible at draws.
You are going to need size in the playoffs...or haven't you watched the past 2 years when the flamed out in the 1st round... |

The point a lot are making about Carcillo is he can be moved up. In case of a injury in a game, or a needed shift or two. I am not advocating for Carcillo to take Saad's place on the top line, just saying the options are nice. Bollig will be on the 4th line, no moving up.... Carcillo has played in the top 6 in every location he has been at. He played some here, he played with the Yotes, and yes he has played in the top 6 in Philly. He has the skill set to move up and down the lineup. |

I think people are missing the point when there are people who prefer Carcillo to Bollig. No one is calling for Carcillo to lock up a position in the top 6. If the game calls for it, he certainly can throw his weight around on the top 2 lines for a few shifts.

I do agree with you on PP....that is going to be a major concern. Kompon wasn't brought back to LA for this reason. Hawks have far too much talent, to be this bad on the PP.
Leddy needs to be a point. Not Keith. PP is all out of whack, and in spite that...they are still where they are.
It may be time to bring Barry Smith down.....because whatever system Kompon has installed, is flat out bad...9 games left may be enough time to tweak it. |
