Wow. You really think that the only way that they can beat the Blues or Wild is if a goalie steals the series? I know that Ian is a huge homer, but most of the guys on the site are pretty realistic when it comes to expectations, and I'd take the Canucks over the Wild unless Backstrom stands on his head. The Blues would be a tough matchup for the Canucks, but that could go either way in a 6 or 7 game series.
People don't realize that this team is pretty similar to the one that went to the cup.
Gone: Torres, Ehrhoff, Samuelsson
Added: Garrison, Roy, Kassian
Didn't include 4th line and depth defensemen changes, and Malhotra since he missed a big part of that run. Hodgson was also used sparingly as a 4th liner or healthy scratch during that run. - Nucker101

You say that as if there's something wrong with living in the new now. I guess as an Oilers fan there is. Keep clinging to the past and trying to convince yourself that Hall, Nuge and Eberle are the second coming of Messier, Gretzky and Kurri. - hankthetank
I wasn't being condescending. All I was saying was looking back a decade, there's nothing there for you. Look forward a decade, the team probably won't be better than it is now
I've been unlucky enough to cheer for the Oilers in hockey and the Bills in football during their incredibly lean years. Must be awesome to cheer for a good team. Enjoy it while you can.

Doubt they'll face LA, and I actually think that they'd beat Phoenix this time. I'd love to see another VAN-CHI playoff series though. |

Me too. Great hockey |

Except that you only get Bolland against the Sedins in Chicago and the Canucks are 8-2-0 in their past 10, whereas the Hawks are 6-3-1.
I don't rank the Canucks above the Hawks, but the Hawks are definitely beatable. - 1970vintage
Haha the Canucks played oil avs flames coyotes etc and go 8-2 and the hawks played Ana LA min st.luois Detroit Nashville and go 6-3-1 and the Canucks are way better cuz of their record lol ??? |

By enjoy, do you mean riot?! I'm on it.
There's plenty of great playoff matches looking back a decade. A run to game 7 of the Finals and some great, long over time playoff games. Obviously not a Cup, but to say "there's nothing there" is absurd. I love playoff hockey and it's all the better when my favourite team is involved. I wasn't around during the Oilers hay day so in my lifetime it's been a lot better to be a Canucks fan than it is to have been an Oilers fan. Oilers are no doubt on the right track to returning to the playoffs but they're definitely nowhere near being contenders yet. |

Yeah, LA will certainly finish higher than 8th, I doubt Phoenix will make it. Just saying, the first seed last year took the 8th a little lightly and look what happened |

Yes, the Hawks are beatable. I didn't mean to make it sound like I thought they weren't. The Hawks are second in the league in goals/game (3.18) and Van is 17th at 2.59, where as both teams are having great years defensively (Hawks 1st, Canucks 5th) Obviously stats don't mean a damn thing if your team doesn't win the last game of the season, but these stats do tell a lot. Hawks are +46 in goal differential (holy crap!) and Canucks +10 (still pretty good) these are cold hard facts |

CHI actually might play MIN in the 1st rd. I'd like us to play SJ if that's at all possible. |

Admirable but there are some teams I just don't think we can beat over a best of 7. Would prefer not to see them in the 1st round. SJ we match up real well with. |

Look at the last 20 games the Canucks have played ... Of those games ... Look at the ones against playoff teams .... Tell me what games they elevated their play ? |

Agree, I'm just saying that as a Canucks fan, I'm well aware of what a +50 goal differential, a top PP top PK, Presidents trophy, Hart winner, Art Ross winner, Jennings trophy etc. etc. means once the playoffs start. |

Canucks have been without Kesler(our most complete forward and arguably the heart and soul of the team) for basically the entire season. Now you add him back into the mix and Derek Roy and this is a pretty legit team. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that those goals for per game and goal differential numbers would be a lot better with those two in the lineup for an entire season. The Hawks have had their injuries too, but at no point they did have guys like Jordan Schroeder and Andrew Ebbet as 2nd and 3rd line centers. Neither of those guys are even on this team when healthy, let alone top 9 forwards and 2nd unit PP players being relied on to provide some offence. |
