I'm worried about that guy. He's had some pretty bad injuries in the last 18 months or so. - Scoob
Worry about Grossmann, too. This is his second concussion in the last 12 months, and this latest one somehow happened at practice. Not even in a game. |

The concussion in the playoffs wasn't a "bad" one. He said during camp this year that he wasn't quite 100 percent in his first game or two back, but thereafter felt fine. His knee bothered him but his head felt normal.
This most recent concussion is worrisome. He's having issues with balance and dizziness after a setback last week. |

That isn't good. Any word on how it happened? Or Briere's? |

Do you think the Flyers will make a move for a top-4 defenseman? I'm not talking about a blockbuster, but maybe something like a Matt Read for Mark Stuart-type deal? Not necessarily those players, but something to that extent? |

here are some interesting nuggets from Friedman's column the other day....
22. Other teams thought Philadelphia wrapped up a deal with Ryane Clowe a day before he went to the Rangers. Wonder if it fell apart because the Flyers didn't want to deal a 2014 first-rounder. They are hosting that draft.
23. If anyone doubted Steven Mason's sincerity in trying to restart his NHL career, taking a 50 per cent pay cut to facilitate a trade should end that. I think a few teams were given permission to talk before Philly closed the deal. I thought Calgary was one of those teams, but Flames GM Jay Feaster denied it.
24. I'm curious to see if Mason becomes kind of a Ray Emery II, ie. a goalie who gets serious about using his talents to the fullest of his abilities. He didn't have the greatest work ethic, but, by all accounts, that has changed. On Hockey Night in Canada Radio on Siriux XM, Mason confirmed there was a misunderstanding about the size of gear he used to wear. It was not as big as it could have been and he was getting hurt by some of the shots he was taking. Philly will give him the opportunity to revitalize his career.

Makes you think that they will try and sign Clowe this summer. |

There's nothing worse than having to watch playoff hockey and all the TV promo's that surround it from now until June and knowing your team is not in it. With the lock out this past year, the down time for Flyers hockey is really depressing. |

I wouldn't mind it. At least he'd bring some speed and two-way presence. I've actually liked Gagne's line with Knuble and Fedotenko, though. Other forwards on this team could learn from their communication, shift management (support each other, keep shifts short and get off the ice) and commitment to defense. - bmeltzer
I've noticed the same about that line.
Those guys are real pros, even if they are past their prime, they do play the game the right way.
The Sens second line of Conacher, Zibanejad, and Silferberg should be fun to watch. A lot of speed and skill.
The Sens started their recent losing streak after trading Bishop. Coincidence or cause?
Thanks again for your blogs, Bill.
I look forward to reading your thoughts especially when the team is going through a bad season. Keep telling it like it is. |

With Rags moving Gaborik and getting out of his contract, I'll bet they re-sign Clowe, assuming they're happy w/his play from here on out. |

Thought I said just that in the lede today
"Coming off regulation losses in each of the last two games, the already-faint playoff hopes of the Philadelphia Flyers (17-19-3) have all but been extinguished. The Flyers are not yet mathematically eliminated. Practically speaking, though, they are. At this point of the season, the Flyers are pretty much in the role of spoilers while fans have an eye on the club's potential lottery odds in the 2013 NHL Draft. " - bmeltzer
yeah you sure did
some of us read it, i guess |

Yep.. LOL
I actually hope the Senators get the 2pts tonight. Even with all the injuries, they have done well, and deserve to make the playoffs much more than we do. I wish the Flyers had the fight the Sens have.

You don;t like Matt Walker? Or Lilja? No big name UFA. Thats the kind of Dman Philly needs, anything less is just pointless. Philly is full of top 4 guys but no one who can be top 2 |

This in my opinion puts the Flyers in a weakened position. Teams know what the Flyers need, and they will try to rob the Flyers blind in a trade.
Lets hope they learn how to draft and develop defense really fast.

Who was NJ's top-2 defenseman when they went to the Finals last year?
Also, that list is a bit old; didn't Smid get locked up?
If available, I'd target the following guys:
Mark Eaton
Matt Gilroy
Radek Martinek
Low-cost/high-return guys who can play int he top 6. Also, should be cheap enough that almost their entire cap could be erased int he AHL. Or, if they go unsigned, at least extend an invitation to camp. |

Well we can increase our goaltending strength with the Stilya Masgalov goaltender duo starting in goal. |

Doesn't matter, they didn't win the Cup. If they had Shea Weber, they would have won two Cups last year. |
