And it's all been absolute crap! All of it. Same thing with the Richards and Carter crap. Such as not wearing the right hat, and the partying. I laughed my ass off reading that grade school nonsense. Never bought any of it for a second. How soon until Giroux is the next victim? - MJL
Already happening Im guessing.
The organization knew full well that the media was just waiting to jump over Giroux if he struggled as a captain. They did it with Richards.
Yet they threw the C on him when they could have given it to Timonen or Briere.
The media is to blame, but its like saying MacDonalds is to blame for their fatty food. Its what they sell. You have a choice how to approach that. |

absolutely. we think of it as more of a service, but it's a for profit business. and what sells is stirring up poop, unfortunately. doesn't mean we have to sit still and take it quietly, though! - FlyerMike18
I agree.
I just seperate the media from the team.
The Flyers arent playing well on the ice reguardless of what is being said in the media. Those guys dont play the game. Flyers as a team have to look in the mirror bc its them (as a team) not getting it done. |

Know what I dont like?
Dry Island never should have got out. Yet it came to be true so someone said something.
I think the Bryzgalov sleeping rumor is BS but there is too much stuff that gets out from in house. The joys of the continous hard on that society has with instant information and twitter. - flyer_nutter
I have a major issue with stuff that should be "in house" leaking to the press.
I'd love for the Flyers to find the clown leaking poop, and immediately ship his as out and make it clear, publicly, why that player was shipped out, like they did with Garry Galley.
They made it clear that Galley's willingness to share locker room information with the media was not going to be tolerated. |

If you think bryz doesn't know exactly what he is doing you're kidding yourself. He likes the attention and drama as much as the reporters. They're playing this stupid game together. - ukeman

His contract will always be a scarlet letter.
Unfortunately last year isnt forgotten, and even though he hasnt been the problem. He has not been consistent enough, for what his contract is, what he showed in Phoenix, and what was expected of him because of that.
I will 100% say that the organization has failed him as well, but thats another story. - flyer_nutter
He might not be consistent all of the time but most nights he does give the team a chance to win. His contract can be blamed on Holmgren for giving him that contract. If you want the Bryz that was in Phoenix you need to get him a defense or focus more on team defense. |

i certainly believe that bryz likes the spotlight and enjoys going at it with the media. that doesn't mean he's the reason that the content of their writing is so silly and irrelevant (it ALWAYS is....richards, carter, lupul, upshall, lindros yada yada yada) |

No he hasn't put the spotlight on himself more then it needs to be. Don't be ridiculous. How many times did Bryzgalov call a press conference? Or invite the Media because he has something he wants to say. He gives his time in interviews because he has to. And he answers honestly. And what happens? The media clowns screw him for it. Because most of them should be writing copy for the National Enquirer, then covering a pro sports team.
I don't know how many times I have to explain that the cliches you want him to use, aren't part of his vernacular. - MJL
He has continously imo shown he cannot handle the pressure of a big market. It makes distractions for his team, and thats where my issue is.
Does Bryzgalov have an ability to be boring/cliche? He feeds those guys more than he needs to. Or is he not able to do it?

I don't think it's much of a distraction. And you're making it into far more then it really is. I'm done here. If you want to fall for this grade school nonsense and get sucked in, go ahead. But it's all about nothing.

Right. He is not THE issue.
All the media, and distractions aside. Do you believe the Flyers can find similar play for a cheaper cap hit? Its not his fault what the contract is, and again that is another issue (management/ownership panic)
I was one of those who didnt like Bryzgalov last year because of the too many weak goals allowed, and the distractions I felt he created in the media when he could have acted differently. I went into this season pretty neutral toward him, but personally I am starting to lean away from the whole experiment.

Well than they need to start with a coach that focuses on defense. They need to upgrade the blueline also. Thats the starting point. |

No worries. I also believe its grade school nonsense.
I also believe his actions create needless distractions for the team, that could be minimized if he acted differently.
If you dont believe that so be it. When the team is doing well be more crazy, and fire away whatever, but when the team is struggling I dont think thats a very good approach. |

You make my point for me. A player should change his personality based on how the team is doing? I say bullpoop! So what's it really about? What he says, or the losing? I don't know how it could be any clearer.

Change his personality? This guy is a multi-millionaire he cant act differently in interviews or not look like he is falling asleep on the bench to limit the amount of distractions his team then needs to deal with?
Those two things go hand in hand. When a team is struggling, I dont think his actions off ice benefit them turning things around, as more of it being something else to deal with.
Again, is Bryzgalov unable to control himself? He whines about the media but feeds them constantly. |

I think Bryz just gets annoyed by the same dumb questions game after game by the media and just snaps, falls for the bait. I don't think he's intentionally looking for attention. If it was up to Bryz i bet you anything he would not want to speak to any of the media at all.
As for sleeping on the bench and feeding the media or whatever else, i don't think that has anything to do with the team turning anything around or struggling. I highly doubt these guys are going into a game focused on "Bryz was sleeping on the bench the other day" or "Bryz called the media dumb and Tim panaccio asked me about it. |

I'll 100% agree with you. I dont think its THE issue. In the big picture I do think, especially on a team with quite a few young players that limiting those kind of distractions, by not just reacting which Bryzgalov seems to do, would help. |

who's yellow? I'm apittsburgh fan! Nothing to be ashamed of. In my lifetime my pittsburgh teams have won 11 championships. How are your boys doing? - bigdaddywaite
It's kind of sad that your feeling of self worth seems dependent on groups of strangers winning sporting events.
Not to mention the need to troll the fanbase of another team to make you feel better about needing a set of tweezers to be able to aim your stream when you micturate.
I could give a rat's ass about the Steelers or Pirates. Football is for brain dead idiots who can't digest more than 20 seconds of sustained action. And the Pirates are about as well attended as my kids' little league games. Or that fact that Pittsburgh can't support 4 pro sports teams, because their fanbase is made of notorious frontrunning imbeciles.
You see, when the Flyers decided they needed a new arena, they paid for it themselves. They didn't hold the city and state hostage and threaten to move the team to Kansas City. Nor is the number of championships the Flyers have won dwarfed by the number of times they finished dead last.
When the Flyers superstar player retired, he was hired as GM. He didn't take over ownership of the team because he was owed so much money that to recoup it he had to become the owner. He didn't have to resume playing again to draw fans.
So, before you go ahead and say 1975, remember, the Flyers didn't need to be one of the worst teams in the NHL for five years to become a contender again. They needed one. And for the multitude of reasons they're struggling this year, most are easily fixed, by getting guys healthy and by younger players becoming more consistent. If it requires more, then we have no doubt that our management will expend every effort and every dollar to fix it, rather than willingly trade away star players and accepting poor quality hockey for an extended period. |
