The organization knew full well that the media was just waiting to jump over Giroux if he struggled as a captain. They did it with Richards.
Yet they threw the C on him when they could have given it to Timonen or Briere.
The media is to blame, but its like saying MacDonalds is to blame for their fatty food. Its what they sell. You have a choice how to approach that. - flyer_nutter
Making Briere captain would have been beyond stupid.
He might not be consistent all of the time but most nights he does give the team a chance to win. His contract can be blamed on Holmgren for giving him that contract. If you want the Bryz that was in Phoenix you need to get him a defense or focus more on team defense. - idiotsallofu
Focusing on team defense is a good idea, but it won't fix all the problems with how Bryz is playing. His shootout save percentage is far lower in Philly than it was in Phoenix, and that has nothing to do with anyone but him.
not sure if this was touched on, but did anyone flip on Frozen Four and see "hockey town Pittsburgh" attendance? Looked 3/4 empty. Some hockey town. - bgratch
Pittsburgh is a not a hockey town.
Other than being in the part of the state with the most inbreeding, I would say it's actually a football town.

Regarding Straka, According to his representation, Octagon Hockey, the Flyers beat out a group of 10 suitors to sign Straka to the entry-level contract, which begins next season. Straka’s deal is for the NHL entry-level maximum of $925,000. His base salary is $823,500, but he also has a $92,333 signing bonus coming his way each summer.
Gotta love the Flyers and their willingness to spend to get some of these guys. the organizational depth needs more speed and skill. like them adding Flanahan and Straka so far. And Alt on the blueline.

For those that missed Bryzgalov's comments to the press yesterday -

good for bryz. i hate the "media" in this town. they're a disgrace (except for bill of course, and wayne fish is pretty good). and they get away with it, day after day after day, and the flyers continue to give them access. horrendous.

Hockeytown- A city whose fans and media don't treat its pro hockey(along with every single other sport in Philly) team so poorly that NO ONE ever wants to play there, hence the never having a team that is capable of winning it all. Throw some batteries buddy.

And who is itching to play in Pitt? Oh boy you got a 36 yr old Iginla chasing a cup, news for you everyone and I mean EVERYONE in this league despises the Pens and that franchise. Tortarella said it best "two whiny baby superstars and most arrogant franchise in the league" Go troll on another site.

Yes, Pittsburgh, with 1/5 the population of Philadelphia, is by far the superior city.
