Anyone else notice the parallels between the Sixers and Flyers?

1) Both will likely miss the playoffs and get high draft picks.

2) Both traded away young studs last summer: Vucevic for the Sixers, Bob for the Flyers.

3) Both will likely get new coaches this summer.

4) Both are likely to undergo major "rebuilds" this summer.

There are a lot of people who live and die with the Sixers, they just don't have the disposable income of Flyers fans.

edit: and they certainly aren't going to throw away what little they have on that product. Can't blame them.

I wouldn't mind it. At least he'd bring some speed and two-way presence. I've actually liked Gagne's line with Knuble and Fedotenko, though. Other forwards on this team could learn from their communication, shift management (support each other, keep shifts short and get off the ice) and commitment to defense.

Top of the list is a case-study in who to avoid, but there are a few interesting names lower down on the list:


Leopold's a pretty decent puck-mover and 2-way guy... wouldn't go north of $3.75M to sign him, though.

Summers is a more polished version of Ryan Parent... great skater, responsible, decent size and a wealth of pro experience.

Kostka's been pretty solid with the Marlies and has acquitted himself well at the NHL level. I think the Leafs will try to hang on to him, but he's a late-bloomer like Jason Garrison.

Sanguinetti would, at worst, provide a huge offensive boost to the Phantoms.

And, as we know, you could do a lot worse than Drewiske or Lovejoy as your 6-7 dman.


None of those guys are going to set your hair on fire (or cost you much to sign), but Sanguinetti and Summers in particular are worthy reclamation projects, and we know Homer loves those, almost as much as he loves collecting former WJC U20 Team Canada members.

i'm getting pretty tired of Lavy's face.

The flyers had too many things go wrong to come back from in a shortened season. It's a shame since everyone was so amped for the season to start. They still have a lot of issue to address, but even with the same lineup I expect them to be much better next year.

I wouldn't mind a coaching change, but would also be fine with giving Lavi another year with a training camp, full season, and hopefully a healthy lineup to work with.

I wouldn't let him mess with our goalies anymore. My tune changed on March 7 and was no coincidence.

We also don't have a brodeur in net. Not many teams have that calibur of goaltending

That guy plays pretty good against the Flyers, I don't watch him much otherwise.

This has been my view throughout. In a shortened year you really don't have the oppertunity to come back from 'bad breaks'. And with the tightly condensed schdule you don't have the practice time to fix bad practices or correct play. It's just not a good basis to make sweeping changes over. Especially when the team is young and still pretty good on paper.

That being said, we could sure use some more puckmoving Defensemen if we want to really use Lavy's system.

Well the Flyers have been good at blocking shots and limiting the amount but once a team gets the cycle going, Flyers are runnning around with their heads chopped off, The Defencemen are failing at basic D fundamentals. A 2 on 2 and forwards cross and so do the D, the D should be switching guys and not cross. For some reason Gervais left his man and he got a breakaway Vs Isles. Turnovers have been brutal but forwards are somewhat to fault there. D throws the puck around the boards under pressure and there is no support from the wingers.

This team is mess. Maybe Giroux is a guy capable of being a captain but It seems to me it was given to him because he is the best player on Philly. It is just like giving it to Landeskog. These guys are too young to be captains.

I think expectations play a part. Most people -- those that are buying as fans and not for business purposes, anyway -- don't expect their season ticket purchases to become "throwaway" money. That's happened twice in seven years now.

I've had my eye on him since his play in Columbus(always looking for fantasy D-men). He can be pretty shakey at times both with & without the puck. I think his ceiling is a Matt Carle. I'm interested in Jamie McBain as far as a trade. And Ian White and Mark Steit as UFA's. While I would not turn down a realistic trade for Yandle I wonder if we could make a smaller trade for Rundblad. Maybe Laugton instead of Coots.

Apparently, it's a great spot to see games, and the fans are great, but I have to believe that not making the playoffs to have even 2 home playoff games is going to hurt them a lot.

The goalie roulette that Lavi plays is frustrating, but this year he's been consistent thankfully. Not that he had much choice until they acquire mason. I don't think it mattered much who was in net on Tuesday. The only reason I see to play mason a lot down the stretch is if they are seriously considering buyin out Bryz, otherwise, I wouldn't change up how they've been playing Bryz too drastically. Not that there are many games left to do that anyway.

The core of this team remains a bright a spot. They just need to do a better job supplying the support pieces around them. Everyone knew this wouldn't be an overnight success with the young team despite their past success.

Can someone clarify this for me:
A friend of mine is one of those "Bryz Sucks" guys; not his best quality. As the Flyers go, he's the typical WIP overreactor. His idea is to buy out Bryz, not because he's bad, but because we'll be absorbing his cap hit if he retires or is traded/retires because of the cap recovery rule or whatever it's called.

I was under the impression that Bryz, Richards, and Carter don't qualify for that because they were signed before that rule was implemented. Can someone shed any light on that?
