Also, that is not a guaranteed recipe for success.
Veteran leadership is indispensable.
Once again, see :

Add the Sens in there as well. |

there is no relationship just an observation..... - toddkac
I believe I tried to address the line between implying and directly calling someone something. With that said, should it continue, I'd feel I had issued a warning (you know, I try to warn) and would then be justified in escalating.
Generally, I think the two of you shouldn't post about or to each other, since neither seems to be able to handle it particularly well. As evidenced by this conversation we're having right now. |

Yep. You're right. He distracts from the rest of the pu$$ies we have on this team.
Screw Ott being captain. I'm voting him for President. - Powerslave
Ott is one of the problems, we are the most(i think) penalized team. Ott contributes to that.
If this team wants to start over Ott is not one of the guys to have teach them. He is a fan favourite I understand that but if we could get a first with him then see you later.
He is the type of player that is better suited for a team that is challenging for the cup not a bottom feeder.

Anybody see this? - Powerslave
It's an old faceoff trick that he learned from watching Stevie Y. Messier used to give guys wet willies. Sakic liked to pick his nose and fling it at the faceoff dot while telling the linesman, "right there, drop it right there."
Ott is the clear cut choice for captain. Class guy. |

Well thanks Sippy.
Went through a rough patch and even at my age we all still live and learn.
But thank you. |

I'll take him for his compete level. Obviously we don't think Armia should learn to troll people before faceoffs - that's not his job. He should learn, however, that if he gives up on a play he'll be reamed for it. And I think Ott can deliver that. |

On a team that's this bad, there is no "clear cut" choice for captain. A player shouldn't be absolved from blame simply because he tries really hard. |

You know, the Marlies could always use another fan. TIN Connolly plays for them.
If it's a guy that hits, wins draws, scores 15-20, fights, calls out his teammates after a pathetic effort, and has heart, soul, truculance and sandpaper, then, NO, you don't want to watch Steve Ott. In fact, please DON'T.
Go watch Connolly instead.

no need to be so arrogant.
Do I get more then two choices?
Why do so many fans here have an "everything" or "nothing" mode. CanĀ“t I watch other players too or just Connolly?
I would trade Steve Ott for that player in a heart beat. |

I think I'm just sick of it being a topic (so I brought it up again...). They aren't picking a captain this year, yet people are calling for Ott to be captain. There is a lot of work to do between now and next season. It doesn't make sense to pick a captain until they determine what type of team they are going to be and how deep of a scrub are they willing to partake in for the rebuild.
Besides all that, Ott brings some great leadership attributes to the table. He also pulls some antics that you don't expect from a captain. IMO, let him keep the A. Put the C on someone else, or no one for a while. Build an identity before you decide who is going to be the face of that identity. |

Ott is one of the reasons why we aren't at the bottom of the league ATM... Therefore I blame him. |

I don't disagree with that plan, and I don't hate what Steve Ott brings, but I think his "leadership" accolades are overstated. Does he show some leadership qualities? Sure, but to me, a really good leader shows those qualities, and also has those qualities translate to winning games, big games. A look at Steve Ott's career in Dallas, and the latter is lacking. I said the same thing about Shane Doan as well. Does that mean he's incapable of it? Not necessarily, but he definitely hasn't shown it yet. |

I see what you did there!!
I've said it numerous times Ott as a leader in the locker room and on the bench, is a captain. I've know how he is on the bench, he was great with Grigorenko in training camp. Ott and the shenanigans that he pulls on the ice is not. He is the type of player this team needs. A 15-20 goal scorer who can win faceoffs and drive the other team crazy. Especially with such a young team we are going to have next year. If he can get the other team off their game and start chasing him around it opens up things for the rookies. Let him keep the A bit he is not C material |

Disagree.
This team would be unwatchable if I had to listen to Kevin Sylvester do the games.
Who would do the play by play?
Paul Hamilton is not the answer either.
Both of those guys make me want to drink drano while listening to them. - BuffaloHardHat
Duff is the best guy they have in tow. I suspect they will get someone better. Too bad we let Pete Weber get away. |

I don't think they should try and "replace" RJ. Duff in that light is a good option - just calls the game, no theatrics. |
