i saw someone mention it earlier, but its worth repeating
while some of those reporters i do think love to create drama, others really have no choice but to address this (and other stories like it). Once Mayes first reported it on the radio and it spread around, the reporters really dont have a choice but to report on it. Otherwise their editors would can them.
The best they can do at that point is downplay it - Crimsoninja
The funny thing about some of the bigger "National Enquirer" like stories about the Flyers.....How many can you actually trace back to a beat reporter?
The "Eric Lindros was hung over" story was a WIP special. Much of the Richards/Carter thing was done by bloggers and followed up by the local media. The stories about infidelities among the player's wives? All internet message board stuff.
I could be missing one or two, but which story on the Flyers was actually driven by local, credentialed print media (such as it exists today)? |

To go from 'internet message board stuff' to in the media scene, though, somebody in the media has to be the first to report it. Even if it's widely believed on forums, it's irresponsible to report it.
EDIT: Also, I didn't answer your question. |

It's all part of a bigger picture that is the Philly sports media. I dislike a lot of it, but it really seems like most fans want this kind of reporting. People eat this poop up. So I'll withhold further comment. You know what they say: "It's better to remain silent and be thought a misanthrope, than to speak out and remove all doubt." - BulliesPhan87
I'm going to reserve further comment until I can look up the meaning of misanthrope!

No, you didn't, but you still made a good point about how information gets from "message board" fodder to being reported by MSM. |

I was listening to Bob MacKenzie on XM Home Ice today, and he was saying how the issues with Bryzgalov are such a distraction he could see a buyout, but at the same time made it clear that Bryzgalov hasn't been the team's biggest problem and actually played pretty well for most of the first part of the year.
The hosts, Scott Laughlin and Mike Brophy commented on the video above, not really taking Bryzgalov to task, but noting that he does have the rep as a goofy guy. Brophy pointed out that Bryzgalov has always been an entertaining interview, who is honest and doesn't have a habit of hiding from his share of the blame.
What I found interesting is, nobody mentioned Dry Island, or the other nonsense about Carter and Richards, or other past examples of the Philly media running amok. - Jsaquella
earlier, Friedman speculated that the flyers were less than pleased about bryz's demeanor on the bench in WPG and the way the video of that circulated the way it did. he further speculated that the meeting story was morphed from what happened from that incident...or whatever you want to call it.
he defended bryz's play this yr in the context of the team's overall performance and contrasted it w/ last yrs missteps.

Seravalli wrote unequivocally that the Flyers were tired of his act and his demeanor on the bench in Winnipeg. That's why Friedman is a pro and Frank is a douchebag |

I know I'm kinda Laught with this but, yeah...
I'm sure they happy enough IN LA, but I don't see how the Flyers are set back a few seasons when the production from just a couple of the players they received in the trade is higher than that of Carts and Richie.
Carter 29 PTS in 41 GP (24G 5A)
Voracek 39 PTS in 40 GP (17G 22A)
So, Voracek is outproducing Carter in pts by 35% in less games, plus we got the 8th overall pick, (Couturier) and a 3rd, which turned into a pretty decent prospect in Nick Cousins, one of the leading scorers in the OHL this season.
Richards 28 PTS in 41 GP (10G 18A)
Simmonds 25 PTS in 37 GP (12G 13 A)
So Simmer is basically replacing Richie's production (virtually the same points per game) plus we got Schenn who has 22 PTS in 39 GP + we got a 2nd from LA which was used to bring in Grossmann.
Given that the production of Carts and Richie was more than replaced by Voracek and Simmonds, and that the trade also added a very good young player/prospect in Couturier and a solid D man in Grossman, plus a good prospect in Cousins, I'd say the trade didn't set the team back (there are other reasons for that) and in my opinion, set them up for a brighter future. - exlund
I can't believe their is a single logical Flyers fan that still would rather have Carter and Richards vs Voracek/Schenn/Simmonds/Couturier/Cousins. |

Loved Carter and Richards here. Still a big fan of both players. I like the trades!

The problem is, Seravalli reporting on what started on 97.5 and a TMZ website that substitutes Philly sports for the Lohan or Kardashian families, made it a bigger story. - Jsaquella

It looks like Nashville is going to lose again tonight and eliminate any chance they had of making the playoffs. They can start early passing around the hat to the league to help pay for the $13 mill they have to pay Weber again this offseason.
The devils are headed for their 9th loss in a row.
It looks like Bob is turning in another stellar performance for Columbus and barring a 3rd period collapse or a Detroit win will have Columbus within 1 point of a playoff spot. |
