Besides the fact that you guys pummeled us last year in the playoffs, I was a hell of a lot more scared of a Richards Flyers team than a Giroux Flyers team. - nbartley9

Sorry Timonen is not an A. He is doing ok but is responsible for a lot of defensive errors. Was on for both goals against last night. Makes up for it on the PP. My view is a B at best.
I think you are a bit hard on Coburn. - strongsupporter
Kimmo is 6th in the NHL for scoring by a defenseman. For what people have been saying is a sub-par year for Kimmo, he is a -1.
Given the injuries he's playing through and the role he's asked to play, I don't think you can ask much more of him than the Flyers are asking of him. |

So is this new Straka any relation to Marty of the same surname? (who remains somewhat of an ironic cult hero here in Pittsburgh) |

I haven't seen any relation, but that was my first thought when I saw this signing.

tied 1-1 in the third period, with two Flyers' power plays early in the final stanza - Bill Meltzer
This is exactly why I completely disregard the Flyers ranking at/near the top of the PP stats this year. Too often the PP fails to come through when needed. |

not only that but he has been paired with some low quality partners this season..
He has easily been our steadiest d-man yet again. |

At the very, very least, I think I read he's playing through a case of plantar fascitis. He likely injured his groin (or some lower body part) in that game against Toronto and came back and played last Saturday in Winnipeg.
Not to mention the guy is about 10 months or so removed from back surgery.
So yeah....I'm gonna give Timonen a bit of a pass. |

I think you have to give that to Luke Schenn. |

That's just how I felt, last year we did a pretty good job of beating ourselves. Not taking anything away from the Flyers they were the better team last year. A Flyers team led by Richards was a more threatening opponent. |

Richards and Carter have to be loving this....Defending cup champs, back in the playoffs and playing good hockey as of late. All while basking in the LA sun! I love the guys we got back on the trade but it set this team back a few seasons. - flyerfan28
(frank) carter and richards. Seriously who the hell cares anymore. I have no problem with the return of Voracek Couturier, Cousins, Schenn, Simmonds and Grossmann (aquired with one of the picks) for frick and frack. I appreciate what they did when they were here but seriously who cares anymore |

pretty much done rooting for a playoff spot, should we start rooting for a higher draft pick, right now were like 6th, is it possible to be a top 3? - mydoglicks
Without winning the lottery we have as little chance of finishing in the top three as we do getting into the playoffs. Calgary, Colorado and Florida are 5 points behind us with 8+/- games to go. I can't see them passing us even if we lose out.
Tampa and Carolina could pass us. We have a game with Carolina left on the schedule. I figure somewhere 4 to 10 is the reality. |

The one thing that I still find funny is that Jeff Carter seemed to resist moving to wing at every chance he got when here in Philly, yet is now enjoying a big season (at least, goal scoring wise) in LA since now exclusively becoming a winger.

And now the forwards
Giroux: C While he is still basically a point per game player, and he certainly missed Jagr and having a healthy Hartnell at the start of the season, he needs to do more. As a franchise player, he needs to be the Flyers best player every night. Not sure how much having the "C" weighed on him this season, but hopefully by next year, it won't be an issue as he will have learned to deal with it better.
Hartnell: D- Dumb penalties, bad turnovers, poor positioning, what more needs to be said. If it wasn't for Coburn, he would be the biggest disappointment on the team
Voracek: A The one true bright spot of the season, makes the Carter trade look awesome.
B. Schenn: C Shows some flashes of fantastic skill and hard nosed play, but is extremely inconsistent. In his defense, needs to be put on a line, and left there; Lavy has moved him around WAY too much in the lineup. The potential is absolutely there.
W. Simmonds: B Pretty much the same as Schenn regarding flashes and inconsistency. However his work ethic and physical play earns him a higher grade.
Read: B Has struggled some since his injury, but overall has played very well in all situations.
Couturier: C Some have been hard on this kid, but lets face it; has he had 2 games in a row where he has played with decent linemates? On the surface, his numbers have not been good, but his Pk work has been great since the first couple weeks of the season, and his potential is off the charts.
Talbot: C+ Really picked it up after the first few weeks of the season. His work on the pk has been great and he always gives his all. Hopefully he can come back 100% next season.
Fedotenko: B Does his job, kills penalties, works hard and plays well defensively, the fact that he is a plus player on this team says a lot.
Rinaldo: A- The most improved player on the team, his discipline and ability to consistently draw penalties has been great, and his hitting is phenomenal. Why he doesn't get more ice time is yet another reason this team needs a new coach.
Gagne: B Doesn't have the explosiveness he had in his younger days, but is still a consummate professional who plays smart in all 3 zones and sets a great example for the younger players.
Knuble: C Always gives his all, just doesn't have much left in the tank to give. Had a nice career, hope he enjoys his retirement
Briere: D Another huge disappointment although injuries and playing out of position probably had a lot to do with it. I wish him all the best with his next team.
Hard to really grade any other forwards as they either didn't play enough games, minutes or a combination of both.
Finally this leaves us with the coach and GM
Laviolette: F Where do I begin? Refusal to adjust his system to his talent until way too late; his constant poor judgement regarding the goaltenders; not holding veteran players accountable when they consistently make the same mistakes over and over again; his poor use of Couturier??? Laviolette may be a good coach overall, but he has simply done a terrible job this season.
Holmgren: C Can't blame for failing to land Suter or Weber, he made incredible offers to both. Also I am glad he didn't overpay and resign Carle, as he is nowhere near worth what Tampa paid for him. That being said I mainly fault him for 3 reasons. 1. Should have found a way to resign Jagr, his leadership was missed and he would have helped Giroux big time at the start of the season, 2. Should have gone out and acquired a legitimate backup for Bryz prior to the season and 3. Should have made a move early on to get someone in on the 4th line that could win faceoffs consistently. One other plus in his favor is at least he didn't make any panic moves during the season and the Mason deal could turn out to be a very good one.

I only care when I watch them play. They've ruined any fun I had rooting for the Kings to win games. I've had to adopt the Oilers to go with the Canucks for my late night rooting interest. |
