C'mon, those photos were blowing up all over the internet. Porn stars, co-eds, groping boobs for photos, crashing frat parties, not to mention the regular folks reporting online about their behavior.
No need to rehash it but they brought most of that on themselves and if you're a beat guy and your editor drops that in your lap and says "get me the story." you do it. Especially when it's the night before a playoff game. You ask the players the coaches and management and write the story.
You'd think after the first time they would have gotten it under control but if anything it got worse and they got angry about it. - mayorofangrytown
I think it was extremely overblown. The media in this city isnt that way with ANY other sport. For example, my wife and I (she was my fiance then) were at a friends 25th in the city on a Saturday night. About 5 Eagles players show up around 1130 and crash a booth next to ours. Todd Heremans and Brent Celek were part of the crowd (with Celek being the most intoxicated... obviously).
They were playing a Monday night game against the Saints.. in which they lost.. and Celek actually dropped a pass right into a d-backs hands who had a 99 yard pick 6. Herremans left the game with an injury.
The bar was packed.. people were posing for pictures, the players were dancing partying it up. Celek was with his wife/gf or whatever... was dancing with my wife.. If that were a Flyer.... whew. |

That's because the writers in this town KNOW football. They can break it down. They are unable to do that with the Flyers hockey. That's why it's a stepping-stone job to move to the football beat, like Les Bowen did. The ones sticking around either like the sport (Wayne Fish) or aren't very good writers (Tim Panaccio). |

You're absolutely correct! The whole Carter/Richards thing was nothing but media driven nonsense. Same as the Bryzgalov stuff is now. There is so much more to talk about. That are real issues wih this team. |

This. But that's not to say they aren't good players. However like NFG said, who the hell cares anymore? |

So it seems the opinion is Briere is the buyout guy this year, and Bryz next year? I like Bryz and am tired of the revolving door. With better team D he is not exposed and left out to dry. If Hartnell has another year like this year, I think he should be considered for buyout, guess its a matter of which player bounces back? Also I don't know if the rules are different with Hartnells contract being bought out or not, CBA talk is not my strong suit, but if you need useless Transformer knowledge Im your Huckleberry. |

i'm glad he stood up to the nonsense as well, but he hasn't played well enuf for me. this is not the crazy 80's w/ goalies wearing almost half the padding. regardless of the quality of chances, which are not any better than ones in DAL or BUF, we can't run away from these #s which are substandard on their own, let alone in light of the contract.
there will be alternatives this off season. i don't think it's likely that LA or VAN will continue w/ their current tandems, for example. - isaiah520
I prefer to go the luongo route if he becomes available. I doubt la is Dumb enuf to poopcan Quick a year removed from a cup. Bernier is an unproven. I'd rather get a proven vet like luongo. Can be inconsistent like bryzgalov but I think we can all agree his resume and ability are an upgrade. We have stolarz in the system and maybe just maybe Mason really is a diamond in the rough. |

I would love to know what, if anything, the team said to those two players.
Patrick Kane has been all over the blogosphere with his partying and he's still in Chicago and productive. - johndewar
I recall that the GM picked them up personally for a CHoP visit and read them the riot act in the car. That was immediately followed by the late night frat party exposure which happened in the gossip section IIRC. |

The Flyers are 27th in the NHL at 5v5. Yup.. ALLL BRYZ - jak521
I think Bryz has played pretty well, my concern is with his cap hit and length of contract. 7 more years at a 5.7 million hit is just not worth it to me.
If he was going into year 3 of say a 5 year deal with a cap hit of 6 million or so, I would keep him, but with his current deal, I think its best to buy him out.
Ideally I would buy him out after next season, but with the cap ceiling dropping by 6 million next year, I think it needs to be done this summer. |

I'd have no problem at all with it. If he develops as expected, the Flyers will have plenty of flexibility to either make Schenn a full-time LW or trade a center to fill a blueline spot without feeling the pain. No such thing as too much depth or talent at one position. - bmeltzer
You wouldn't take Nurse ahead of Monahan at #6? |

Can somebody help me understand the benefit of waiting until next year to amnesty Bryz, if that's the route the team takes? |

The benefit is we'd have Bryz as an option through next season. |

He won a cup and scored the clinching goal. Therefore they say to him, "Goodnight" as he leaves the team facilities. |

I feel the same way, especially with the cap recapture. If he retires in the last year of the deal, it's an $8M cap hit. |
