Not sure how much validity there is to that statement. If they wanted to trade him, it could have happened at the TDL. I'm not doubting that there is interest in his services. But teams would likely rather hold onto their assets and suit him as a FA as opposed to trading a big piece or two and have him at his hefty contract. - steelydan
i don't think teams want to handle all of the $$ on that contract and gillis wants him totally off the books, so we'll see what happens. |

Less distractions? That sounds pretty pathetic for a team to buy out their goalie because the local media loves to drum up a story to get hits. It won't change, either. Mason or Emery or Jesus Christ himself would still be under the same scrutiny. - steelydan
I wont go into this again, there was a long talk the other day.
His play on the ice imo can be found for a cheaper price and better contract. (main reason). The distractions he is at part to blame himself. He can answer differently, or keep his mouth shut like he did earlier this season. When his actions create a constant trend of his team having to answer for him, I think thats an issue. He can help limit all of these things, but he falls for the media bait every time.

erhoff getting bought out? i think leino might be. - isaiah520
I think Leino is definitely a buy out candidate, he just can't stay healthy. Erhoff's contract length is a concern, but his cap hit is very manageable for top 4 d-man. I think he stays.

Bryz sucks, read the stats. - Winning
Maybe he doesn't maybe he does.
The bigger problem for this time might actually be offense.
3 goals in basically 4 games and no more than 1 goal in any of those.
Let me go change my cat litter, it will be more exciting. |

I think they will split the games down the middle for the most part, maybe giving Bryz an extra game.
Mason has looked good so far. Even if he looks great over the last 7, I don't think it's grounds to be the opening day goalie. - steelydan
I know, but if he plays really well it just makes his case stronger.
There's seriously no reason not to Atleast split starts to end the year. We aren't making the playoffs so it really doesn't matter. Give the kid starts. |

No offense, not trolling, watching this game, I can see why neither team is making the playoffs. They both look miserable. Cant event string a couple passes together and its not because of good defense. Both teams look incredibly out of sync. - SJFreez19
It is two teams, both playing very uninspired and boring Hockey. Both teams are just mailing it in.

Exactly. This.
Emery was good for us then got Injured...
Always been a fan of Backstrom. There's no way he's brought back with Minnys cap situation next year. Kuemper will be their starter. Or they'll sign a cheaper option.
I'd be 100% cool with a Backstrom-Mason/ Emery-Mason combo next year. - FLYERSROCK!
Emery will be buried behind Crawford for years if he stays in Chicago, I could see that happening and wouldnt mind. He has gone through a lot in his NHL/hockey career but seems to have become a really good soldier.
With the cap going down, I wonder about Hiller's future in Anaheim.

I really wish Bryz would have taken the Robert Esche attitude towards the media. Unfortunately, I think he is truly a nice guy who is honest with his feelings. In this particular media market, it just isn't a good mix. |

New owner with lots of money during that free agency period. It was an odd signing considering they wanted him to play 2nd line center. I've read some of your earlier posts, I would inquire about a trade for Tyler Myers. Long contract, but worth the risk in my opinion. |

Im sure a lot of us are the same way. Speak our minds, and wear emotions on the sleeves.
Not always the best approach in a big hockey market with BS media just looking to take anything you give them.
I wouldnt go as far as saying he wants to be bought-out, but his comments of he wouldnt wish what he went through last year on nobody even his worst enemy, or most recently that Philadelphia is like "dark waters".... I wonder where he stands... A lot will come out this summer imo. |

Hiller or Ryan will not be a Duck next year is my guess
Why not make it Hiller? Fasth has proven he can be a starter, so why have a 4.5M backup?
Thing is, who would we give up for him?
I'd rather trade for a top pairing dman with our limited assets than a goalie...
I'm expecting a lot of moves by Homer this offseason. Wouldn't be surprised if Mezzy, Bryz, and Coburn are all gone in the offseason |

Was not a part of that discussion, but that's fine. I'd rather not feed the beast anyway when it comes to that soap opera poop.
I don't care how he talks to the media. It's not part of being a goalie. The media asks stupid questions, he responds stupidly. The only people it affects is the media and the idiots who are gullible enough to get wrapped up in the drama. It's literally a non-issue and any fan of hockey should feel the same way. This isn't the WWE; a player's personality OFF the ice makes no impact on me.
If you think his skill-set can be found at a cheaper price for this off-season, I'd love to hear the options. I don't think it's out there. And I think the Flyers' made up their mind already with the 1-year deal with Mason. The writing is on the wall; next year is a audition for both goalies. Briere will be bought out this year. |

i agree about myers. we will have to pay a lot, but i don't think it'll be as astronomical as a young guy trending upwards. that's a better gamble than last yrs FA lottery approach. |
