Doesn't matter it's a lottery system, so get that out of your head. - ob18
If the Flyers have a choice between Monahan and Nichushkin and taking the signability factor out of it, who ya got? |

The Flyers tried that right handed defenseman bullpoop this year and they missed the playoffs...I'd say we're finished doing that - Jsaquella

Is he NHL ready? - stveshdy
Probably. But he's going to have several years of ups and downs before he might -- or might not -- start to emerge as a franchise defenseman. I'd prefer to see him brought along slowly.

At the NHL level or starting in the AHL and working his way up? |

Monahan is the safer pick (even apart from signability), Nichushkin has the higher upside. I'd personally go with Monahan because I think he's going to be a fine NHL player and also NHL-ready sooner. |

From watching him I'd say he needs to add some muscle/weight & work on his offensive zone exit at least.
I'd say he could really benefit from another year in Portland. But we know that likely won't happen. |

The Islanders outplayed the Rags most of the game but lost in OT.

When I saw Monahan in Ottawa last year, I had no idea who he was but was told back then to keep an eye on him that he'll be a top 10 pick. I have and pretty impressed with his overall game. Even with his 10 game suspension this year. |

I'd follow the same model that St. Louis used for Pietrangelo.... let him see a few NHL games as a teenager but return him to junior hockey before he burned a year off his ELC, and then at age 20 have him turn pro.

Is it safe to assume you have Monahan still in your top 4 prospects? |

Top 5. My top four are MacKinnon, Jones, Drouin and Barkov.

You would think whoever drafts him will most likely need him to step in and play. With the cap going down and the UFA market looking thin on defenseman he may be a better option. |

Probably. But his best shot at developing into a franchise D is to be brought along slowly, IMO.

You are probably right. Its not very often a teenager comes into the NHL and plays at a high level as a defenseman. It would be better to bring him along slowly but the team that drafts him will have to make that call.
Lets say the Flyers drafted him do you think they would let him stick it out all season with the big club? |

Thoughts on Akeson's chance of playing with the Flyers next season? |

They're going with the "sign as many as possible and hope one turns out great".
And if that's the case i'd love for them to go after Sunshine who once again dominated the SEL this year. |

Laughton scored shorty today, Akeson with 2 G's and Alt +2 for the phantoms |

If you got to see him before his OHL playoff suspension he was a bulldog on the PK, he'll be awesome here just needed to feel comfortable.
Perhaps not knowing if he was staying beyond 5 games may have weighed on him a bit, cuz when he went back to Oshawa we went to work. |
