Let me see if i get this right..
1. Our offense may be worse than our defense so lets do the following because he is having a bad year that started off with a broken foot which only impacts the most important part of hockey.
2. Everyone seems to forget that over the past 7 years of his career Hartnell has scored.. 25, 22, 24, 30, 14, 24, 37 goals .
Because, like the rest of the team (other than Jake and Rinaldo) he has sucked this season people are willing to trade him for a prospect and a pick?
Please 610WIP hockey fans tell me where those goals are going to come from next season? I can hear it now "but he only has 4 this season" and no doubt that is the case but that is also not proven to be his average over the course of his career so I would suspect that coming back healthy he will be back to the normal 20-30 goals he averages.
If you can package him for a number 1 dman and in turn package couturier for a proven goal scorer then ok .. If you are moving him for a prospect dman and not replacing his goals..good luck with that. - opeth_pa
I would trade Hartnell in the right deal. Now what that is, I currently dont know. |

the flyers scoring issues start from the blue line out, but 2 other factors come to mind...
- one, they don't play as a cohesive coordinated unit
- they lack a real sniper...someone who's a solid bet for 30-35 goals |

agreed about the second point
i know they have talented young forwards that will improve but i'd love for them to pickup a true sniper like you describe to take some pressure off giroux. |

yea, they were so explosive for all of those yrs and the loss of jagr and JVR didn't help. if there is space for a guy like ryder, he could be a good get. |

The right deal for me is part of a package for a number 1 dman or to move into one of the top 3 picks.
Anything else and I dont do it. |

My top choice was already snagged, Jon Cooper. Other guys who have never been NHL head coaches that I'd like to see interviewed would be Dallas Eakins, Steve Spott, Mike Haviland and Greg Ireland. Of coaches who have experience, I'd be open to Guy Boucher, Tom Renney or Craig MacTavish.
There's also two guys who have jobs that could be fired in Peter Deboer and Kevin Dineen, who I'd be willing to see come in. - Jsaquella
mike haviland's brother, george, was my midget level hockey coach in high school. mike got a raw deal in chicago, imho. cool to see him get so far in pro hockey. his name has been quiet in any coaching rumors i've seen for some time now. not sure what he's up to right now.
not really interested in boucher, renney or mac....haven't really had any nhl head coaching success.
i'll be surprised if Lava doesn't get fired, but i won't be surprised. the fact that he hasn't been fired mid-season gives me some reason to think he'll be retained. |

wonder if the caps will be this yrs version of the kings. both teams have been contenders for yrs with a core intact, were having down seasons, had GMs under fire making a controversial trade (though erat < carter), and closed the season strong.
they're playing the devils system that deboer had success w/ last yr and they have more talent than NJ. i guess the goaltending could be the deciding factor. |

It's really quite simple to me. You don't trade a player just to trade him. YOu trade a player to make the team better. I hear all the time let's trade Coburn and Hartnell. Just because some want someone to blame. And they had down years. Not legitimate reasons to trade someone. Make a deal that makes the team better, and I'm all for it. Trade them just because you don't like them as players anymore? That's not an intelligent plan.

They already have the players to take some pressure off of Giroux. Voracek is scoring at a 34 goal pace this year. Even with the team having a poor offensive year. And there's no doubt in my mind that Hartnell can score 30 playing with Giroux. A sniper for the top line would be nice. But it's more of a luxury then a necessity in my opinion.

with the way things are going in Philly sports nowadays, I came to expect this. Not that he was a guarantee to ever be a #1 starter, but adding to the prospect pool never hurts. Especially since it consists of Heeter and Stolarz and nothing else. |

It's okay, we'll have to draft one and let them develop. Not the worst way to go with it. Got 4 in mind from juniors. Since I doubt Fucale slides to them in round 2. |

That's pretty smallish down the middle and weak on FO's. It's especially so compared to what we had under the Clarke years with Lindros and Primeau eras. - phillydentist

if you were GM and Fucale was there late 1st, would you make a push to trade up the 10ish picks to get him? I still like your idea of signing Niederberger but I haven't heard his name being linked to any NHL teams come to think of it |

that's rubbish. the issues CLEARLY start from the net out. bryz has ruined everything. i can't wait until we buy him out and the goals will start pouring in at the other end of the ice. |

I'd consider it without doubt. I suggested Niederberger because he's a decent goalie who doesn't cost a pick and maybe they chase him now who knows. If they don't want to move up for Fucale I'd consider
Charlie Graham (Belleville), Spencer Martin (Mississauga), Tristan Jarry (Edmonton), or Austin Lotz (Everett)
All are likely mid round choices in the draft. |

they should have gone further last year in the playoffs. got hosed in a penalty situation at the end of the game and lost in OT. they were the better team in that series against the rags. surprised to see them struggle as much early on. seem to be on fire now. they have good goaltending and OV seems to be going again. they could go deep. |
