my issue with it is that it's only "a good hockey trade" for the flyers in the immediate short term. in my opinion, of course
i make that trade if yandle is the missing piece to make the flyers a true contender. i'm not confident (at all, actually) saying that, so i'd rather hang on to couturier - FlyerMike18
I agree that Yandle is some what a proven commodity, but Couturier isn't right now so PHX would be taking a chance on Couturier turning into the player he is expected to become. Right now no one knows if he will become that player |

so... our defensive play sucks top to bottom... solution is trading our 20 year old defensive forward for an offensive minded dman who can't play defense
this is going to turn out great! |

It fills a need for both teams, and the possibility of a top 5 pick for the Flyers is looking good so, there is a chance you may be able to replace Couturier with another good offensive player. Possibly Drouin - FreshFlyer
There's that other guy you guys mentioned. Monahan or something like that. He'd replace Couturier.
Trade Couturier for Yandle. Sign Streit. Draft another young C. You'll be good. |

I just think you could get more if your going to trade Couturier. Very young player who still has great potential. Theres a reason why teams keep asking for him when the Flyers look at trades. |

I shouldn't be giving ideas to make your team better
The way I see it you'll have Couturier and Read as trade baits to strengthen the team. You'll have to give up something to make it better all around. |

i'm with you. i'd love to add yandle, a talented offensive minded d man would be a big help. not enough, however, if the cost is sean couturier |

Would you rather trade B.Schenn straight up for Yandle? |

I think the Flyers are struggling in all areas of the game right now.
(except goaltending, go figure)
I hate the idea of trading Couts.
But that is what Phoenix will want.
They may have to trade with someone else, and I would seriously be trying to gauge interest with other teams for Hartnell to get the puck moving defenseman.
I like Hartnell and fully expect he will score 25 or more goals next year, but I don't love the length of his deal.
I think he would be highly valued to other clubs for what he brings, and they may be able to fill their need on D and still keep Couturier.

i'd be much more in favor of a deal like this. that said, i don't get the sense that a hartnell trade is very likely. you never know though |

I really don't see them trading him either.
I think the management loves him, he is a big personality and can be an excellent player with streaks of bad play and dumb.
If Coyotes want Couts + for Yandle (which is what is rumored) then hopefully Homer walks away.
Get Streit or even Ian White, hope Grossmann and Mezzy stay healthy, Coburn rebounds and Gusty continues to develop... and build it up the right way.
Might have to struggle some more next season, I'd not love it but it would be better then getting screwed in a trade. |

that's my mindset as well. see if a new coach/ a full training camp/ some better luck on the injury front can make a difference before getting wild and trading away core young pieces
while not ideal, a d of:
timonen-schenn
grossmann-coburn
meszaros- (gus, zaitsev, FA)
wouldn't be awful (on paper, at least... not a bad group). hopefully a new coach can get them playing a better overall team defensive game |

Meh, I don't think positioning had anything to do with that goal yesterday...it was just a bad and fluky bounce.
I have no problem playing Briere. It can't really hurt his situation. Bench Jay - I like to ice it, ice it - Rosehill if we want to check out players from the Phantoms. At this point, it's just a matter of getting through the season as quickly as possible, preferably without injury.
And for all the talk of "tanking" a few weeks ago, I think most of us would agree that trying to win now is actually counter-productive to the Flyers potential for next season.
I don't think anybody should be told to lose, but I do think you let the kids audition for next season while letting Briere audition for...whatever.
And if we can't get Jones (which we can't), I want Rasmus Ristolainen. He's a bit older, better developed, and more experienced than most of the kids in the draft, so I think he's the most likely of what will be available to the Flyers to actually step into the NHL this coming season or the next.
Was already a presence on D at the 2011-12 World Juniors, where he was the right point-man on the number one power play, and was asked to step up and fill in at a spot usual occupied by the older junior defenseman. He is big, physical and skilled, and has a low-panic level and shoots the puck hard and fast. He is very mobile and agile as an attacker and power-play pointman. He already plays in a league with grown men and successfully competes. Gets used on both points on the power play. You may not be getting an elite up-ice guy, but more of a highly capable two-way guy who will surprise you when he jumps up into the attack. One of the top defensive prospects of this class and clearly one of the bigger bodies.

I love the sound of this RR guy.
6'3'' right handed and another Finn
The Finn players thrive in Philly.
Agree about Briere playing out the string of games.
Not sure why Knuble was benched, actually.
To play one of the kids I would have liked but not to sit in place of Rosehill.

i think the bigger issue on that front (meaning overall goals against) has to do with team defense/ overall puck possession. having some d-men that are better at handling the puck would certainly help, but i also think that a lot of that falls on the forwards |

the entire team was not good top to bottom
(again except for the goaltending which was OK most nights) |
