It seems Miller and Vanek have. I think Miller will be out of here in the offseason and Vanek will sign an extension to finish up here in Buffalo. He will get a fat signing bonus and his cap hit will be very reasonable.

I actually think we should lose Miller at the draft and Stafford ASAP, buyout Leino but keep Vanek until the deadline. It's a contract year for him so I imagine he'll put on a show so we can get the biggest bang for his buck.

Not negotiating during teh season cost them a cup. IMHO...could have had drury, briere and vanek all for 5 mill a year or less.

In the new CBA a player can not make 35% less or more in any consecutive year and can not make less than 50% of his highest years salary in any year.


A 6 mil cap hit doesn't seem like a possibility if he gets a fat signing bonus.

I think the team has checked out on Miller.
Yesterday for Ewok. Tampa had 0 PP shots, Stamkos and St.Louis combined for 1 shot. Sabres took 1 penalty, Enroth has had 2 easy games in a row. If the team gives Miller a few of those games he has a few shutouts

i like to defend most of the things darcy does but not negotiating during the season is by far the most idiotic practice i have ever heard of

whatever if a player chooses not to but making it your franchises' policy.. words cannot describe.

they had a deal with drury, decide to wait 6 months to finalize it

vanek's agent refused to deal with the sabres

briere could have been extended for 5 mil before that last season began

best case for the sabres would have been to let vanek walk, take the 4 picks and resign briere, soupy and perhaps drury on a 3 year deal

worst case was what happened

Despite his flaws, Vanek is still a very good player. He has the right attitude to move forward with a young group of guys. Leino will get another shot next year.
An offseason miller and stafford deal to a team that needs to spend money to get off the cap floor makes the most sense.

They called Vanek's agent in season, he told them no thank you. He said we're going to test the offer sheet market. They said that during the press conference when they matched.
