The cap is likely to go up after the 13-14 season so his hit as a percentage of the cap will go down. If the team in front of him improves he will be a bargain. - Scoob
He will never be a bargain. That kind of talk is delusional. |

Why is everyone hellbent on him retiring before this deal is up? There have been several goalies playing into their 40's in recent years. - JoeRussomanno
It's the fear that he will retire, not assuredness he will retire.
Also, the Boston Marathon bombing is insane. |

How terrible, I'm sick to my stomach watching this. I hope this was a horrible accidentand not some kind of attack. |

Heh I simultaneously got a text about that as I'm reading this. Thoughts and prayers to the victims.
Unless he suffers some weird injury I'm fully confident he would play out the contract. |

Let's go FLYERS. Giroux is going to have a big game. Man just do what the Leafs do and outhit them and scare them away with our toughness. Against the Leafs, Philly showed they can be just as tough. Subban doesn't play defense. He rushes to score a goal which leads to plenty of odd man rushes. |

Dear Lord, news sources reporting at least 3 dead in Boston and reports of another bomb found at a hotel. I'm getting a sick feeling that this was no accident, I truly hope I'm wrong.
Very hard to care about hockey right now, my thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families. |

Initial reports were that it may have been a gas main but it was a planted bomb on the sidewalk. |

not intimating, clearly ready for a change. he went south after a great start. lost patience and made radical, sometimes knee jerk moves that devolved into the cluster(frank) of this yr. - isaiah520
The most radical moves that he made, were the trades of Carter and Richards. Did you not approve of those deals? What are the knee jerk moves that you're referring to? |

I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but it was part of post and didn't get much response. But go back through all of the transactions that Homer has made as GM, and do a post-mortem. I also kind of considered my general thoughts at the time.
What moves did he make that we're really good short and long term? Which ones did he "win"?
1. Coburn/Zhitnik trade
2. Kimmo/Hartsy trade/signing
3. Carter/Richards trades
4. Trade for Mesz. Even though he's injured so much, more than worth 2nd round pick.
5. Trade for Grossmann (gave up a bit though)
6. Drafting of Coots (tho Dougie probably would have been a better pick),
7. Signing of Jagr and Talbot
8. Trade of Schenn for JVR (long term I still think JVR outperforms Schenn, but Schenn has been a rock this year so let's put it in the win column)
9. Ville Leino trade from Detroit
10. Matt Read signing as free agent
I personally am not thrilled with last draft and balance of 2011 as we didn't get any dman, but really too early to say on Laughton, Cousins, and Ghost. So some may add to this list - I will wait.
Stolarz and Leier were part of Bob trade - to me a "loss" as I'd rather have Bob. Stolarz is having a nice playoffs tho, so maybe down the road this changes.
Also, I hated the Pronger trade then and now. So again, others may put it on the list, but I wouldn't.
But really, I'm counting about 10 "good" moves in 7 years.
Am I missing something?
Is this good enough? - TheGreat28
I don't feel as if the Zhitnik trade worked in our favour. Coburn has done nothing to impress. We got rid of a veteran presence for a top 4 defenceman. It was still a good deal don't get me wrong but i think a steal is quite excessive |

The Flyers gave up a player who was pretty much at the end of the line, and got a top defensive prospect, who besides his struggles this Season, has been a good player for the Flyers. It was absolutely a steal. |

So it was a good deal, but it didn't work out in our favor? We traded a player who had another 83 games in his career for a player who had a few monster playoff years, most notably the 09/10 run. Coburn's had a bad year, but there is no possible way to paint that trade as not working out int he Flyers' favor. |

wow I think that was easily a steal. had Coburn blossomed into the player that made him the #8 pick? no. but outside of this year where he has struggled, he has done a very good job. and Zhitnik is long gone. |

Also: Braydon Coburn is only 28 years old. It's not like he's some grey beard. He's been good and could get better, IMO. This was an off year for him, IMO, and not representative of his talents. |

[quote=Marc D]
Couturier is a incredible player with immense potential. A bad season offensively, unlucky at times and facing top NHL talent. He’s playing with the worst possible line mates on a consistent basis, he routinely goes out against the opposition’s best players, he starts in his own zone more than nearly everyone in the entire NHL, he’s gotten horrible shooting luck (both offensively and defensively) and with all of that considered he still finds a way to get more pucks at the other net than at his own. His luck will turn around.

I see what they are saying.
Do you think that Couturier has been misused by the Flyers coaches this year? |
