In a Cap environment, there is always going to be a need for players like Huskins and Lilja. Cheaper veteran defenseman that can provide depth.
- MJL

Huskins, as a 7th defenseman under $900K is fine. But Lilja turned out to be about 10th of the depth chart, right after Foster. I'd rather Syvret come up than Lilja.

As for Gostisbehere, I'm not even sure if he's left college yet.

As soon as Gostisbehere plays 1 game of professional hockey (NHL, AHL, ECHL), his amateur status is over and his playing days at Union are over. He is probably 2 more years away at least. I asked the same question a few days ago, as it would be nice to see how he performed at the AHL level. It's one of the drawbacks to playing in college compared to the CHL.
- jmatchett383

Pretty sure we can invite him to training camp though to see where his development is... But yeah I expect another 2 years before Ghost is even an option to come up and even then who knows if he'll be ready. Defensemen need so much time!

I agree with Hall and Huskins coming back.

Any thoughts on Lauridsen? Does he stay up next season?

Yes, he can play in training camp, and he may be able to play in an exhibition game (not sure). But he can't collect $$ for hockey services until he's done with amateurs.

Yeah, problem with Lilja is he aged three years since last season. No tread left.

If Laughton plays another game with the Flyers this season its burn a year on his contract, so he won't be up. Cousins can play up to five games, but he isn't a lock to make the team next year so I don't think they will look at him until next season. Probably give him the same sort of try out Couterier and Laughton got. Ghostisbhere is not under contract, still in college, and no where near ready for the NHL. He probably plays another year at Union, then moves on to the Phantoms for a year.
- dcoy88

Got it. I wasn't clear on rights, contracts, etc.

I guess my thinking is, this season is over, bring up some players to give them a taste of playing with the big boys.

http://capgeek.com/flyers

We have quite a few guys in their 20s who should be, at least physically, ready to compete in the NHL. Seems as good a time as any to give them a few games, right?

Konan. Noebels. Anybody else?

There are reasons why Lilja went down on the depth chart. His hip injury and the layoff from the lockout caught up to him. Lilja before that was a competent depth NHL defenseman. Syvret is not an NHL defenseman. He is a career minor league player, who should stay in the minor leagues.

At his age, he just couldn't overcome his hip injury. Combined with the lockout, that did him in. His mobility was suspect even before that.

Of the UFAs I think they'll bring back Hall, Huskins and Gagne(if the price is right). Time to shelve Timo and hartnel before they get damaged further. One can only pray Briere doesn't gat another concussion.

Be that as it may, I'd take Syvret, Manning, Konan, or Alt before letting Foster into the lineup. I understand that there are 2 types of AHL players; players being groomed for the NHL, and players who are career AHLers. The Flyers just seem to use the AHL for career AHLers only. I'd rather a few of the young guys (obviously not Syvret here) get a shot over the NHL's leftovers.

I really just hope and pray that we don't get screwed in the draft lottery again. The way the team has mailed it in of late, I expect we can fall to 28th overall.. If we end up 3rd worst and end up with a worse than 3rd overall pick I will be mad..

Absolutely. Just depends of which team is most in danger of moving to Kansas City.

I'd like Fedetenko back if at all possible. He has done a really good job for us for what we brought him in to do, a strong defensive game, kills penalties, and adds a scoring touch. He's a little expensive and I think we lose him cuz another team is gonna snatch him out of here...
I'm not gonna cry over Foster, Lilja, Shelley, Rosehill, and Walker walking out the door though.
I do think we'll try and hold onto Huskins and Hall and they will have some discussions with Gagne. Gagne will depend a great deal on the money and what another team offers him. Id' be happy to keep him but I don't think it breaks us in any way if he goes someplace else.
I'd also be ok with Knuble hanging around for the right price. Sure there isn't much left in the tank but he's been one of the few this season who seems to still give a crap. He's really, really good with the media and our young guns should be taking notes...

I wouldn't. Konan and Alt have never played in the NHL. I don't know what the basis is for thinking that they can right now. My understanding is that Manning hasn't been healthy. And Syvret is an undersized puck mover, who can't handle the physical play of the NHL. And doesn't come close to making up for it with his offensive ability. Foster can atleast hold his own out there. Not that I would be enthused with him in the lineup. I think there are better options available, Huskins being an example, rather then throwing a kid into a situation that he's not ready for.

I'd take rusty back fo shos too. I really liked Gagne in his heyday but I'm not sure if he's worth bringing back with the cap clamping down combined with his injury history this might have been a swan song year for him. He's not that old either... who knows.

No, he's right. better to never give them an NHL evaluation and continue to stockpile the scraps of the NHL instead. It's how winning teams build.
