Good thing you aren't in the Flyers marketing department.
'Don't come to our games!!! We SUCK!!! And our beat reporters are SOO MEAN!!!" - johndewar
i know that it seems like a cop out but when you think about it, it's not. Players have asked for trades due to undue fan criticism. Rick tocchet comes to mind. He got booed off the ice during a bad season, I can't remember the exact terms but he was quoted in a book I can't remember which one Full spectrum I belive, anyway he was pissed for taking heat from the fans, I believe he openly ripped us after the trade, because he was coming off a 40 goal season and catching a ton of flak. I seem to remember siding with him because it was one of those typical philly fan scapegoat movements, which was wrong in targeting that player. So when a goalie has 20k people booing him on a regular basis, deservedly so or not, I could see how this affects them negatively. |

I agree.
They would have to be to get here. As such, "crashing" here in some 1950s idea of what we think a UFO is, is a preposterous notion. - Scoob
yea but I don't think crashing totally rules out being more advanced. My personal belief on that whole fiasco is the US was in its infancy of space exploration and was in fact using primates like the soviets did, the vessel crashed and the small bodies which several eye witnesses seem hell bent on seeing were either said primates or in fact dummies made to replicate human crew members. The unusual writing on the debris could be the military simply encrypting the parts or information. there's hundreds of possible explanations. Usually in these cases the simplest ones tend to be the case. |

If time has proven anything, you have to be careful to take anything Rick Tocchet says with the finest grain of salt. He'll say whatever he has to say to ingratiate himself to the fanbase of any city he played in (and he's played in a lot of them).....including Pittsburgh. |

Philly hasnt had a goalie because of the fans....they expect everyone to play like bernie, and they boo the hell out of them during a rough stretch. Most flyers fans are like spoiled little children....always want what other teams have. |

No, he's right. better to never give them an NHL evaluation and continue to stockpile the scraps of the NHL instead. It's how winning teams build. - jmatchett383
You're clearly confusing two different groups of players. One group, are fringe NHL defenseman such as Foster and Huskins. Which teams use as depth players, or as replacement players for injured defenseman. The other are young prospects who may nor may not develop into NHL regulars. No where was it stated that the Flyers should rely on those fringe veteran NHL depth defenseman to build their team over developing prospects into NHL players. |

Seravalli weighs in on...
Who stays?
One of the more pertinent questions filling the inbox these days: Which of the current Flyers unrestricted free agents has the best shot to return next season? My money is on Adam Hall.
Hall, 32, has done nothing but impress the Flyers' coaching staff since arriving as a waiver claim on April 4. He has yet to register a point, but is a valuable role player - physical, provides energy, takes faceoffs and kills penalties - at a bargain price.
Hall earns $650,000 this season. If Peter Laviolette could squeeze a bit more offense out of him, Hall could replace fellow UFA Ruslan Fedotenko for $1.1 million fewer dollars. That goes a long way under a shrinking salary cap - which drops to $64.3 million next season.
It's not out of the realm of possibility that Simon Gagne, 33 and also a free agent-to-be, remains in Philadelphia - albeit at a reduced salary. Would somewhere in the $2 million per year range work for both sides?
Zac Rinaldo and Erik Gustafsson are due raises as restricted free agents.
Jay Rosehill, Kent Huskins, Kurtis Foster and Fedotenko likely will need to find new homes this summer, while veteran good guys Mike Knuble and Jody Shelley will likely file retirement papers.
i think huskins could be brought back as a 7th guy. no reason to rush out on July 1 to bring in lilja 2.0 when an acceptable guy is already in house. - isaiah520

With the way this current team is assembled and playing, do you think it would be fair to judge any youngster you call up to play a few games right now? - five4fighting10

Be that as it may, I'd take Syvret, Manning, Konan, or Alt before letting Foster into the lineup. I understand that there are 2 types of AHL players; players being groomed for the NHL, and players who are career AHLers. The Flyers just seem to use the AHL for career AHLers only. I'd rather a few of the young guys (obviously not Syvret here) get a shot over the NHL's leftovers. - jmatchett383
I'd take Ed van Impe at this point over Foster!! |

If the fans are the reason a team or athlete does or does not do well, I want my contract, as a fan, re-negotiated as I feel horribly underpaid right now.
As soon as I am better compensated, I'd be happy to be a pollyanna. |

Not too mention those teams were just awful.
I went into the wikipedia worm hole for that season (91-92) and saw names like Dale Kushner and Terry Carkner. Mark Freer (remember him?) played 50 NHL games that year!
This was also the team that had an old/aging Pelle Eklund and Mark Howe.
If I were Rick Tocchet and at the top of my game, I'd want out too and it would have nothing to do with the fans. |

you're talking about a government that has miles of red tape and hides the most rudimentary things at times from public speculation. Also the backlash of revealing such a thing is unfathomable and no politician is ready to take on such controversy. It's better to let sleeping dogs lie. There are files on the JFK assassination that are sealed indefinitely, why? we could go on all day. basically the consequences of revealing such things can never be fully anticipated. |

Okay, then when is the correct time to insert young potential AHL players into the lineup? If you're going to have players such as Foster/Lilja/etc. as your 7 and 8 defensemen, when do the players in the AHL get a chance to play in the NHL? Only when the team is decimated by injuries? Granted, this team may not be a good barometer to measure a player's effectiveness by, but I'd at least like for the AHL players to have SOME experience at the higher level if the Flyers see any of them ever having a future in the NHL. |
