Aside from the '09 Pens who had 2 of the best players in the world all the most recent Champions credited great depth as a reason why they won.
- mr.peanut

Absolutely. But you need physicality, solid goaltending and a solid D as well. The sens used to be very deep up front but would get beat up in the playoffs everytime.

From now on, please refer to Frazer McLaren as "Gargamel."

Actually, from you, it's "Mr. Gargamel, sir."

How dare you speak like that to The Omnipotent One.

10 players over 40 points most of whom are over 50...that's depth indeed. But it won't matter once the playoffs start. Ottawa used to have similar depth and get beat up in the playoffs by the leafs time and time again.
- God_then_kovy

guess we'll find out in a few weeks. but 5th overall in league scoring with no one in the top...20? 30 in scoring? i'd say that's depth.

But wouldn't you agree that a team that has great depth during the season has an advantage entering the playoffs over a team fueled on only one line?
- _nay_

Of course.

What this tells me is that Price just doesn't seem to be able to play consistently...it's Saturday night...it's the Leafs...and you come out with that stinker? WTF is wrong with him?

You play Florida, you play Columbus (well, not this year)...you play another run of the mill team and I can let go of a stinker like that...but for (frank)'s sake...THE LEAFS of all teams!

I don't mind Price, I'm not a Price lover, nor a hater...I'd love to be able to love him. But in a 7 game series, you can't afford to have 2 bad games...and it seems that Price is prone to having bad games every so often. Until that changes, I don't know how much praise we can heap on him when he has a good/great game, as we (at least I) know that a stinker isn't too far off...

He didn't had a bad game the last time they were in the playoffs vs. Boston.

I once read on the internet that goalies don't actually plan out their stinker games - something about them happening naturally and by accident.

I'll see if I can find a link.

aside from Boston, all those teams had one or two superstars leading that depth chart, something Montreal doesn't have. depth is there but OilHab is right in that we're missing top-end talent up front.

I think the habs depth up front will be their greatest asset this year in the post season but the D still scares me.

Emelin's injury will hurt us in the playoffs imo.

Like the Pens. Or the Kings last season. Kings had big gritty guys, but they weren't an overly "physical" team.

Let's take this guy's argument, and rule it out just because. Now it doesn't have a leg to stand on. Awesome.

I agree, a mix of both is important, because if you rely on the superstars with no one else chipping in you have the 2008-11 Caps.
