2011 Winter Classic. As the second period ended, Beagle skated up behind Crosby and took a shot at him when no one was looking. Next game was against TB when the Hedman hit made him shut it down, but the Beagle hit was what caused it.

It was David Steckle and it was no where near similar to the hit on Huskins.

Steckle and Crosby collided... White skated from the far side of the ice at the blue line and leaves his skates while throwing a hit.

When I play, I usually don't lead with a shoulder to the head when trying to avoid damage in a collision (see also: Neal, James). Maybe I'm doing it wrong.

Or maybe you should just watch the video again. There was no malice in the steckle hit.

I don't see a match unless they want Bryzgalof for some reason. He loves the weather there.

Might have to pass on that one. The team is similar to edmonton in a lot of (unfortunate)ways. Lot's of young forwards, question marks on Defense and in goal. Keep in mind I don't watch Flyers games, mostly just in playoff's so if a comment offends you, I'm just re-hashing some poop I heard.
The main thing the flyers have that Edmonton needs is some size/grit up front that can work with or without the puck.
Hartnel and Simmonds would be a dream for Edmonton, but I've always been intrigued by Couturier.Ever since the World Jr's and the playoff series against the Pens, I've been impressed with him.How is he doing this year?

He skates up behind a guy who has his head turned and made no attempt to avoid colliding. Further, the head was the PPOC, which means he had to lead with a shoulder, otherwise it would have been body to body. I'm no fan of Crosby, but that was more than an unintentional brush.

Agree to disagree then... the White hit was FAR more devious in nature. It actually had malice IMO.

Okay, I'll agree the White hit was worse. I personally think the Steckel hit was malicious, but we're seeing different things in the video, and I'm okay with that.

Couturier has had mostly a down year. He played with the AHL Phantoms during the lockout and I think they were hoping he'd find his offensive game playing top line minutes with Brayden Schenn. He performed pretty well but when the NHL season started he got off to a bad start. Not sure why but there are a lot of theories posited on here. He had his ice time reduced and it's only been recently that he's started to look like the rookie we were all enamoured with last season.

Although I could see a trade happening with the Oilers, I don't really see a match that would change things for the Flyers in a deal. I watch a lot of Oilers games and you're right. There are lot's of similar problems. Lot of young talent up front that can be inconsistant, shallow defensive core, troubling goaltending for different reasons. We have Giroux, you have Taylor Hall. It would be nice if we could find both of them a little more support.

Exactly. There was a predator/prey like nature to that hit.. as there was to the White hit.

I would consider that deal, might need a bit of sweetener coming back though. Couturier seems to be a bit light on offense this year.Like I said, I have no idea how he is doing, just looks at his stats. Is he getting much ice-time? Strictly a checking roll? Any PP time?Sophmore slump?

That was one of the scariest plays I've ever seen in person. Classy individual to my left going, "What, it's not like he's dead or anything." Didn't Carter have a similar hit the next game vs. NJD in front of the goalie?

Yeah, that's the thing.Looks like both teams will be targeting the same players in the offseason via trade (teams rich on D, weak on scoring forwards). Probably not good dance partners.

Okay, I just remember there was an outcry over the Richards hit and then Carter also took a guy out which furthered it, didn't remember any specifics though.
Miss those guys...

Checking role almost exclusively + Sophomore slump + cement hands for linemates

I agree. It even looks like Steckle tried to slide by/avoid Crosby but still caught him a bit with his shoulder while trying to move up ice with his team on a breakout.

Yeah, I suspect Gagner will get moved this summer, need a 2C replacement. Not sure if Couturier fits the bill, as the team will be looking for a C with size, defensive awareness and the ability to contribute more than 50 points annually. Gags has been great, he's just small and the Oil need to change the dynamic, meaning someone good has to go. He's mostly been playing with Yakupov and Magnus Paajarvi, those guys are young, but I think they have the hands.Could be a good fit. Are the Flyers interested in a top 5 pick, because it looks like we will have one to trade.
