Agreed. Chris Therien was admonishing him on the radio last night. Of course, he also let Bryz have it a little after letting up the first goal. - Flyskippy
Funny you mention Bundy.
I kinda think Lauridsen reminds me of a young Chris Therien. |

Me too, though he *looks* like a young Hatcher with his hair/helmet/size combo out there. Of course, Lauridsen hits. Therien usually did not. |

If you want to continue that conversation, that's fine. Why do you think they were called up? To get a look at them at the NHL level? Or because of injuries? Do you think they still would've been called up if those injuries hadn't happened? You need to put a team on the ice. - MJL
But Konan isn't ready. Why not just call up Manning. What makes you think Konan can play in the NHL? |

we have lots of those types around, take your pick - Marc D
Well I do like Couts. I would move our 1st for him, but if that doesn't help the Flyers for next season, then perhaps either Smid or Gagner with a prospect like Marincin or Musil or Moroz might. Marincin is likely a full year away from playing defense in the NHL, but he's still a good prospect for a bottom pair, with potential to be a top 4. He has been kinda medium in the AHL this year, but it is his his 1st pro season. Musil and Moroz are still in jr, but both seem like flyers type players. Big,aggressive, tough. Musil in particular is like his dad,a stay at home type, but a lot rougher. |

Except against the Penguins when he would deliver a hit or two to Jagr. |

Age-wise, Konan could be considered ready for a look-see. He's 21. |

Nope. It's already been concluded that he's not ready for the NHL.

Exactly.
When he started checking Jagr well, he went from "Therien" (said like Seinfeld says "Newman") to "Bundy" for me. |

The way Lauridsen played last night, I wouldn't be surprised if he sat a game or 2 to settle down and catch his breath. Personally, I think he's improved quite a bit from his first game, but last night was a rough one for him. - wolfhounds
He just seemed a little wound up last night. trying to be too physical |

All mistakes of youth and effort, I thought.

I didn't have a huge problem with it. If he's going to get penalties, I'd prefer them being aggressive ones opposed to lazy ones. He'll learn when to let things slide over time. |

The dumb penalty was the one against Gallagher in the crease...but I'm guessing Gallagher did something we didn't see to get under Oliver's skin, cause he seemed quite angry.
And then Galchenyuk's goal. But that's going to happen. And I like him as well. I'm just saying I could see him sitting a game to watch the game from the outside. Maybe not. Who knows? I'd even consider sitting Schenn and Kimmo a game or 2 since these games are as meaningless as they get. |

But then you'd have to make more terrible call-ups.
But I agree. |

It doesn't matter at this point the flyers are just looking for bodies and will have very low expectations. These are perfect games to look at young call ups |

My good deed for the day....
Link to Bill's piece on Matt Konan from last summer:
http://flyers.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=637961 - johndewar
Good deed noted...
Unselected in the 2009 to 2011 NHL Drafts, Konan nevertheless was regarded as a solid and reliable defenseman during his time with the Tigers. A plus-rated player in each of his five seasons, he topped the plus-20 mark twice and was a mainstay on the penalty kill. He possesses a 6-foot-2 frame that has filled out a bit beyond his listed 182 pounds. Konan is also not afraid to use his size in the hitting department, but not at the expense of playing a sound positional game.
“I try to play physical when I can and be a two-way player,” said Konan, who posted 117 penalty minutes in 2009-10 and 73 last season.
Konan’s offensive game emerged during his overage season. Following the WHL graduations of Mark Isherwood, Jace Coyle and Thomas Carr, the Tigers asked Konan to take on added offensive responsibilities last year. He responded with a 54-point season (9 goals, 45 assists) that shattered his previous top offensive season by 34 points, and then added 5 points (2 goals, 3 assists) in 8 playoff games.
The Flyers believe that Konan had the capability all along to post some points, because he is an adept passer who makes good breakout passes and intelligent pinches. Although the AHL rookie is not expected to see much power play time right away for the Phantoms, he has the potential to eventually play a point on a secondary power play unit at the minor league level. However, it is his all-around situational game that will be what makes or breaks his professional career.
Worth a looksee. I'd keep Konan up the rest of the season. |

Don't take matchett serious on this subject...he's being tongue-in-cheek and continuing a debate (indirectly) with MJL. |

Konan has been seeing plenty of PP time with the Phantoms lately. Like Manning last year, he started the AHL season injured and got a late start to his first pro season. He has played much better this year than Ollie did last year in his first pro season. Matt will be overmatched against the Rangers, but he is the type of player who will learn from it.
Manning has had an awful season. Multiple injuries and poor play when he is on the ice. Haven't checked the stats, but he is probably near the worst +/- among defensemen. He was the Phantoms all-star fill-in since Gus was injured at the time. |

-28, I believe. Still, Konan's relatively high with a -8. |
