How long did you go to college to become a roughneck/motorhand/derrickhand/fluffer?
- laughs2907

didn't have any experience for that... college was after when I wanted a real career.

1 year course, process operations/power engineering, now I make 100K+ and don't do much at all.

its wonderful.

roughneck, motorhand, derrickhand, then built them for a few years, then went to college and got a power engineering ticket and got a job at a refinery. Its WAYYYYY better than rig work.

But they pay well and you learn to work hard, deal with bumholes, etc.

I used to major in petroleum engineering, and that's why I ended up going to Colorado after having it as a choice between there, Edmonton, Oklahoma and Manchester, England. Thankfully, I realized life on the rigs wasn't for me after visiting a few in Texas and Louisiana. So I write news stories and gay erotica instead now.

My friends who are engineers on rigs in Saudi all complain of horniness and I send them titty pics because the net is censored there.

Process operations/power engineering was only a 1 year course?

Yes

After spending 5 years in university, trying my hand in the real world, I now realize its largely a huge waste of time and money.

Trouble is, I bet a lot of people feel that way now, and if I did do that 1 year course, there would be too many people with that diploma/certificate/whatever.

"Peak oil" was and always has been a complete myth. Climate change, which is undeniable now (the only debate now is whether we have caused this or not and lets please not get into that), will eventually force developed countries to look in other directions anyways. Even the powerbrokers arent completely blinded by greed. They just want to milk the fossil fuel cow for as long as possible.

Fukk I'm late to this most likely and it's late here.
I'd debate Global Warming for sure - climate change is a whole different miasma.
It's been changing for billions of years.

I like your point about whether it's Anthropological Climate Change / Global Warming or not.

The AGW alarmists are losing every day. I like how the MSM buried the climategate fiasco.

I can barely get through a lot of data on this site but this guy debates this stuff everyday without IPCC cherry picked data or fear mongering models, misanthropic subtext.

The demand for power engineers in Canada is incredible. They can't pump enough student out.

Hmmm thanks for the information... I'll try to find something business related, but if I don't like it, or I can't find anything decent, I think I may actually do that course. I just read up on it, and it sounds decent. I'm sick of school though, so I'm going to continue looking for a little while at least. Thanks again though.

Oh and if I do decide to do that course, I'll probably do it near your hometown. So, I'll be staying with you, naturally. Surrender your bed to me, and keep the refrigerator well stocked, and we'll get along just fine.
