Again, not sure how much you can gauge a player's progress at this point, but I'm not opposed to at least giving the young guys a taste of higher workloads.

i don't want to see them play soft but losses don't sting as much. having said that, if it's the Rangers, Devils, Pens, Habs or Bruins I want them to win. And losing to those teams sucks.

It's one thing to allow him to play and another to slot him at a place you don't feel he's suited to play (i.e. playing Shelley as your 1st line center as a thank you). If they feel he best benefits the team playing the wing, they'll play him on the wing.

I'd like to see Mason get as many shots under adverse conditions that he can get. It would be harder to gauge him if he played in front of a solid D than a porous one.

If he wants to play, the Flyers will play him where they feel he can best contribute to the team. I don't think it's disrespectful to buy him out. Disrespectful would be telling him that, even though you're paying him, you're not going to let him play 2 weeks before you are going to make him find a new job.
Briere has gone above and beyond his duties off the ice. He's at every charity event he can make it to, he's let rookies stay with him, and he's great with fans. There are guys like Briere, Knuble, and Shelley who, to me, have earned the right to end their careers/Flyer careers with dignity, not as being healthy scratches. That's why I've been advocating dressing Shelley and Knuble for the final game, barring it having any playoff implications for the Flyers.

What ever happened to Valeri Vasiliev?

I realize that the wins are hurting the Flyers chances of ending up with a higher pick, but it's good to see the young players stepping up and refusing to die quietly. That seemed to be a danger after the previous four losses, where the Flyers couldn't generate much of an attack or even sustained pressure.

If this year's class was like the Kane-JvR-Turris class, the wins would be a bigger issue. As it is, the Flyers are almost certain to get a very solid prospect, regardless of where they pick.

The core group is young enough that it can use a late season run of success to build off of for next season.
