no reason to give rosebud 2yrs. he should have to prove his worth every yr. - isaiah520
like I said to the mayor, Shelley 3y @ 1.1 vs Rosehill 2y @ 675
It's a relative win.
or babysteps as DFT says.
I would have signed up Hall first and then see if there was spot for Rosehill, but whatever, for a 12th/13th forward it's not worth stressing out over. |

Sorry to be a wet blanket, but these wins are hurting our draft position. I would love to see a blog from Bill listing the most likely amnesty buyout players on each team and the impact to the UFA market. It would seem to hold UFA prices down since the market has more players. - section32
Speaking of the amnesty clause...what happens if the amnestied play is signed by another team after he's amnestied? Does he still receive 2/3 (or whatever the percentage is) of his old salary plus whatever he signs for? |

There's no harm in giving him two years. The Flyers traded for him. They obviously like what they see in him. He skates well, forechecks well, and provides toughness to the lineup. And the price is right for a depth forward. |

That Pittsburgh team had a still-able Gonchar and Letang. Maybe not true #1 defensemen, but 1a types, who both had great post seasons. Carolina, not so much.
But look at every other team:
06/07 - Neidermayer & Pronger
07/08 - Lidstrom
09/10 - Keith & Seabrook
10/11 - Chara
11/12 - Doughty
All guys who are, to me, legitimate #1 defensemen. So yes, it's not a necessity, but it certainly helps. By the same token, for these "2 deep" top notch centers, here are the top2 centers on winners since 05/06:
05/06 - Staal & Brind'Amour
06/07 - Getzlaf & Pahlsson
07/08 - Datsyuk & Filppula
08/09 - Crosby & Malkin
09/10 - Toews & Bollan
10/11 - Krejci & Bergeron
11/12 - Kopitar & Richards/Carter
I wouldn't call Pahlsson, Filppula, or Bolland top-notch, and Brindy is a stretch.
The point is, there are similarities and dissimilarities between every Cup winning team. If there was an easy formula to building one, every team would look the same. It takes just the right mix of young and experience, defensive and offensive depth, and team cohesiveness. Yes, Shea Weber would help, and I'd love to have him. But he wouldn't turn this team into a Cup contender all by himself, and neither would another top-6 center. That said, with the current age and recent injuries to certain players on the Flyer's defense, there should be a directive to look into upgrading it without depleting the offense. - jmatchett383

Yea, I couldn't understand how Brind'Amour was a stretch as a top Center in 06 either. |

Once Elias scores 30 tonight and Brodeur shuts down the Flyers non-potent offense as well as launches a bullet from his crease that Bryz will nonchalantly duck at, then we will have stuff to complain about... |

ExaCtly... We always have a tough guy so 2 years at under 700 k for someone who can actual play 5 to 7 min a game is a really good deal. And he doesn't get his a$$ whooped every fight either which is a plus |

Bryz is starting tonight, eh? Not a big deal, but I'd rather see Mason for the remainder of the games. |

not the biggest deal, i agree, but it's more about contract limit flexibility. i understand that walker, shelley, et al are history. why create another lead weight if we need to lose a contract? agree about hall, of course. |

not so sure it's that cut and dried, but I'd prefer to see Mason because I wonder if his ability to move the puck might give the Devils some fits. It seemed to stop some Rangers rushes, but on the other hand they did have about 20 shots in the 3rd period.
maybe, if Lava stays, having a goalie who can stick handle a bit becomes more important. I want to see more of how the team plays in front of Mason.
the draft will take care of itself. we might get a better draft position by losing these games, but we're not necessarily going to get a better player. |

This. Losing helps you get a better draft position and teaches the kids that sometimes losing is OK. Not the kind of culture I want. Battle, fight hard, every shift every game no matter what. We have a .4% chance of making the playoffs, so battle for it. Regardless of likelihood. |

was interesting last night hearing Dreger (I think, could've been McKenzie) on NHL Tonight saying that it's likely either Bryz stays and Lavy goes or Lavy stays and Bryz goes. |

IMO, if Snider is calling the shots Lavi goes and Bryz stays.
If Homer is I think Bryz goes and Lavi stays. Going to be an interesting summer. |

I didn't hear that, but it makes sense.
IF Lavy does stay - and with Homer that's a pretty big if, it does seem that Mason's ability to move the puck up the ice could be a valuable commodity, especially if the Flyers have trouble fixing the D in the short term. |
