I think a serious problem that could arise which a lot of people overlook is Mason is not signed long term. If he does come out next year with his hair on fire, what kind of deal is he gonna look for? Then there is always the possibility that he devolves a little after that. Just something to consider.

I'm really looking forward to see Straka in training camp next year. I know he is an overager, but it would be nice to have another winger with speed and puck handling ability.

Nice to have some elbow room on the bandwagon

Last year and this year, this team's biggest issue was defense. This team last year didn't have trouble scoring goals. This team would be even worse shape defensively if not for Luke Schenn. I like the trade more and more every day.

I always thought the Schenn JVR trade was a good trade for both sides. Toronto Neeeded a bigger presence up front with some goal scoring and we needed some more help on the backend. While we needed more an offensive D man and Toronto needed a Center. Both players gave each team enough of what they needed to make it worth while. I think both teams got what they needed from that trade.
