If it wasn't for Caps 1st rounder Tom Wilson Plymouth would be struggling to score. |

Havent paid really any attention to Stolarz.

Only turned 19 this January, so he's not AHL eligible next season. Also, he's not pro ready yet -- still working on lateral movement, recoveries and rebound control. But he's come a long way from the start to the end of this season. The move to the OHL was good for him. |

Before I skin and gut the coach I got to look at the team the GM put together and the organizational philosophy. It was pretty clear to many that this team wasn't going to be a contender this year. Sure there was probably enough there to make the playoffs but jeez the injuries were the final nail. I don't think Scotty Bowman at his best could have won more than one playoff round with this group. From the beginning there was too much placed on a young nucleus Coots, Schen, Voracek and Simmons. There wasn't enough veteran leadership upfront with Briere hurt and struggling, Hartnell having an off year and Talbot not producing. The defensive struggles could have been anticipated also, they really miss a puck moving defenseman and despite Mezzy's relatively sturdy history I had a bad feeling about his health, Grossman is a warrior but injury prone. How much longer an they rely on Kimmo for the big heavy minutes? And Bryz, he's the least of their problems but that's not saying much. I don't blame Moonbean for everything but I don't care for his personality. Sure, it's easy to fire the coach again. That would be the 4th in 10yrs. One minute we're complaing about the impatience of the organization yet we're anxious to give Lavy his papers. I lean towards keeping the coach another year with the hope that the GM gives him a better team and that God keeps it healthy. - 2731color
I'm looking at Laviolette's performance since 2010, not just his performance in 2013.
Had I been happy with Laviolette's performance prior to 2013, then this year would be a blip on the screen. But each year the team's level of play has dipped and the decisions made by the coach have been questionable.
That said, the blame is not Laviolette's alone, but there's enough on his plate for me to call for his job. I was a huge proponent of Laviolette getting the job, and I think he's a good coach. But I no longer feel he's the right coach.
They need to make player changes, as well. That doesn't exonerate the coach and the job he's done. |

Any player who is a CHL player may not jump to the AHL before age 20. If Stolarz had jumped from NCAA to the Phantoms he could play as a 19 year old, but once he jumped to the Knights, he was under the 20 year old |

Thanks. Just wondering why you can't jump from any league no matter the age. |

Well, it the case of the CHL, it's to ensure that 18 year old stars that generate revenue for junior teams don't jump to the AHL.
Take a player like Nurse, Pulock or Hunter Shinkaruk. They're probably not NHL ready, but they're legit studs in junior. Fans are buying tickets to see them, and they're a boon for their junior teams. So rather than have them in the AHL, they get to stay in junior, and help their feeder teams.
In th case of NCAA players, as soon as they sign a pro contract, they lose their eligibility, so the only course is the AHL.
European teams, at least at the Elite level and in the KHL will sign those kids to contracts, which they can't jump. |

Prior to 1979, the NHL Draft was open only to 20-year-old players. When they merged with the WHA (which took in underaged players), the rules were changed. The 1979 Draft was open to 19 year-old-players and every draft since 1980 has been open to 18-year-olds.
The CHL leagues, which were (and to a large extent, still are) the lifeblood of the NHL talent pool, were very nervous that the new drafting rules would deplete them of 18-year-old and 19-year-old star talents who would turn pro and be assigned to the AHL.
The NHL, realizing the financial and on-ice importance of the health of the teams in the OHL, WHL and QMJHL, struck an agreement with the OHL that any 18 y/o or 19 y/o drafted player who did not make the NHL team would be returned to his junior club rather than being assigned to the AHL. The AHL honored that agreement.
No such agreement exists with the NCAA (since players who sign contracts lose their NCAA eligibility immediately) or with the federations in Europe. So that's why players from those leagues can play in the AHL immediately once eligible to sign with an NHL team. |

Thanks for the info. This makes alot of sense but I just figured if you signed a player you own his rights and could send him were ever you liked. |

Plymouth tied it with less than a minute to go in the 3rd period. In OT, and the Knights have taken 54 SOG's.

Fair enough. He's probably likely to agree that he could have done better but I'm beginning to think the Flyers will never have the right coach. I'd attribute some of the dip to the loss of Pronger. I think he's mishandled the goalies but from the beginning he didn't have the strongest of hands. I have to defer to others when it comes to deep criticism of the X's and O's of coaching but I can recognize the wrong mix of players and I think that's the biggest problem. |

Bill assuming that Anthony keeps this type of play up next year with the Knights. What do you think are chances that Stolarz gets a roster spot for team USA in the upcoming WJC's? (if he's even eligible) and who is his competition? |

The mix of players is wrong for the system that Laviolette prefers, but that's sort of the crux of my issue. I want a coach that will adapt and adjust.
The poor record vs NJ, NYR, TB and Boston the last couple years is stinging. Even Florida simpled aped what the Devils and Rangers do and beat the Flyers twice this year. There's just no apparent adjustments coming. |
